Question Rattle

The weather has turned cool here and I have noticed a buzy, plastic sounding rattle that sounds like it's coming from under the driver's seat that seems to happen when the heat is on. I suspect the plastic vent under there but I wondered if anyone else had this or knows the cure? It only happens going over bumps and not all the time. Since I got this car with 5000 miles I can't rule out the possibility of a foreign object in there either.

I heard a rattle in my car and then I realized it was the passenger seat belt hitting against the B-pillar plastic. I also noticed that over extremely rough roads, which there are many in NJ/NYC area, the shift paddles can rattle a bit. This is something I noticed on my W211 E-Class as well. It took me a while to figure out where the sound was coming from, but if you put your hands on the paddles it dampens the sound and you can see where it's coming from.

Yeah, I should bring it in I guess but I'm still a little gun shy due to Lexus complete failure to address any of the many random squeeks, rattles and creaks that plagued my GS350.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been trying to isolate a rattle in my car for a long time, and indeed it is the shifters as you mention. I go nuts when I can't figure out what is rattling! Oddly, I'm ok with rattles if I know what causes them. Thanks to you I am at peace again.

I noticed a rattle coming from a plastic piece encasing the odometer/tachometer. When it rattles, I hold it and noise went away. have not heard it since.

Yes, I can concur the same with my '07 GS and gave up after a couple of years. I have a nasty rattle from the rear passenger but only when the car is first driven in the morning. Instead of taking it to the dealership, I just both a ton of rattle trap fatmat and dropping it off at my car audio installers who will fatmat it from the trunk to the engine. Anything they can pull apart they will fatmat it! Should help with road noise as well.

I get the rattle on the instrument panel too. Annoying.

That and a bad rattle on the rear deck if there is a hint of bass in the music i'm playing - maybe the sunshade?

Yes, that's when I get it.

I think I'll have to park it, play loud music and see if I can trace where it's coming from. It's annoying

Instrument panel rattle could be coming from the plastic cowl or trim that surrounds the instrument cluster. Mine was very bad first. It was hanging loose on left side and made this rattling sound whe driving on rough road surface.

Strangely the glass of the instrument cluster cracked. Made hell of a bang too doing it. Like a rock on windshield at 70 mph but I was barely moving on slow back road.

Instrument cluster was replaced. They could not replace just the glass. This MB did very nicely. No delays other than a couple of days to get part in. Cluster was changed in one day and all went well.

The rattling also went almost completely away. There still is occasional small sound from it as that cowl still hangs a little bit loose but I think I will use sticky tape or something to fix it instead of having the whole thing torn off again.

I know how annoying this can be if yours is doing what mine was. In a $60000 car you would not expect to have issues like this but apparently you can.
