Does anybody else have problem accidently hitting parking brake when sitting in a car

My wife complained that it is serious design flaw.

what are you doing with that left foot??? LOL...........
I will admit the P brake only needs to be tapped to engage......
I accidently hit it while driving once......the cruise shut down and the IC went red.....
it freaked me out......but I've been really careful to not do it again.......

It has happened to me twice. First time, I had no clue how it happened. Its happened only when entering the car. The panel blushed with being all red and all...Never while driving.

My question is, what will happen if you accidently tap the parking button on the lever while in drive or reverse.

I can confirm that it will put the car in park up to about 5 mph while in drive.

As they used to say on SNL..."I hate when that happens"..."like sticking a needle in my eye"

Thanks for the input. It looks like I need go and check. I use to apply significant force to engage parking brake, but never tried it with the new car.

I think everybody's confusing the "Parking" button on the shifter, and what I think Dema is talking about: The Parking BRAKE (where a Clutch would be).

I know the Parking Brake is a classic M-B throwback, and it beats an ugly arm-E Brake in a Luxury Car, but I'm surprised it's still stupidly hard to press in. I've literally felt my foot getting sore from trying to press it in hard (you have to, if you want to engage it tightly). Why M-B hasn't developed a more luxurious option, is beyond me.

But no, I've never accidentally hit it. I think they've placed it way out of the way from the regular pedals.

Definitely, it's a lot higher up on the W212 than it was on previous Mercedes models

Jaguar developed it as completely electronic. So no stupid brake pedal. However I can guess that adding more electronically engaged device (especially such as safety related) will require some backup battery and so on. So it is why it is pure mechanical. From other side, MB did completely electronic shifter with backup battery, so adding parking brake in the batch shouldn't be a problem.

Never had this problem in 20 k miles on this car. Seems to be in the same spot as on other cars with the P brake on the floor. And I am 6'2 with size 14 feet.

I'm not confused either, as I was replying to clmulli, which was a sort-of hijack question of what happens when you hit the "Park" button on the shifter. At least at low speeds, it will put the car in park. Talk about stopping on a dime! Yes, I hurt a little inside when I did it.

I quite frequently brush the parking brake when getting in the car (but not while driving). No biggie. When I first got the car, it flashed the red screen and I didn't notice. As I mentioned in another thread, the car didn't like me ignoring it, so it briefly cut the power, turned off my radio, and gave a loud and insistent ding-ding to alert me. Hee hee, I noticed that!

I have had the same problem...I may be hitting it on exit or entry..but im pretty careful...Starting to think it is loose and engaging when I close the door.

I believe it engages by itself without even touching it. The last time it happened to me, I am confident I did not touch it. Oh well, no biggie...it is hard to ignore the RED you see in front of you, so I just press it to get moving.

This has happened to me a couple of times as well - I'm sure I didn't touch it but the indicator light was on saying it was engaged.

I guess the car just didn't feel like going anywhere that day!
