Just depends on what look your looking for. Mine is staying on as my car came with the chrome door inserts.

I much prefer the "chrome" trim on the sides, front and rear. Also prefer the standing Star on the hood. In fact, I ordered my car partially so I could get these features.
Even after six years, still makes me feel good when I see it sitting across a paring lot as I approach - from side or front.

I thought about this today, looked at my car several times and worked the abstract part of my brain to contemplate it. My conclusion is, if my car didn't have a chrome grill, trim around the windows, chrome badges etc. it would look out of place with the chrome. For some reason, especially on black cause nothing looks better than chrome on black, but this chrome strip adds a kind of blend type balance with the other chrome accents of the car. To me there would be a void without it, especially with a polished lip rim. Now if your debadging your ride, painting the chrome, well then yea that's a given, remove it cause your changing the "theme" here. Without the chrome strip, kind of reminds me of a side view of the 2010 BMW 5 series. All it has is the chrome around the windows which always seemed odd to me. It's not a move that makes or breaks the look of this car though.

I prefer the clean look without the chrome side strip (especially on coupes). Here are pics of mine before and after:
