Cruise Control

Today I noticed that whenever I used cruise control, there was dotted line showed inner circle of speed meter cluster...what is that? Mine has only P01 option so I believe it's not distance radar indication..

Does your CC still activate? I thought dashes come like at a too low speed for CC to engage, perhaps this is different, can you post a photo?

I can remember there was a cluster issue too on some 204s (should not be an issue for a W212, it was before W212 sales started), some weird lines on the display. A photo for reference would be good.

If you are describing the the dotting lines that form a semi-circle in the instrument cluster, then they indicate the set speed. If you notice, the lines match whatever speed you set and your MFD displays the speed briefly before it goes back to whatever you had displaying. The lines then stay there to indicate the current speed setting for the cruise control.

Must say that Audi had yet a better CC. You could set the CC speed before it engages. In W212 when you move the lever up or down it will engage CC immediately. Then after using brakes it resumes when you pull it towards you.

With Audi if you are say coming to a lower speed limit area and touch brakes to let car coast down, while it is coasting you can set the new speed with the lever and then engage it by pullind towards you. It will not engage by moving lever up or down. I was a bit dissapointed my new W212 did not have this feature.

So did you still have the option of controlling the speed with the CC in real time? I like to be able to control the speed in real time with my CC without stepping on brake. Sometimes the car in front is going a couple miles an hour slower and I don't want to hit my brake and then reprogram my CC when 1 tap down of the bar will do. Same with a higher or lower speed limit.

sounds cool, I have gotten really used to this one now......
I like to use it to speed up and slow down as well.........
don't like tapping the brake either, I really like slowing down in the
5 mph increments too.........and I'm sure the drivers behind are wondering
where my brake lights are until I get to 20 mph, guess that's where the CC stops enabling itself.........

very handy

Not sure on the W212, but on the W164/X164, CC no longer Coasts down by aerodynamic drag - rather by using the brakes. As a result the brake lights are on each time you tap down and you can see/feel the brake pedal moving as well.

hmmmm, I did wonder about that, you can feel the breaking sensation, I didn't realize the B-light's were engaged.......I always look to see if I can see the reflection from the rear windshield break light strip......but never do......

So your traction control is broken? lol.

And yeah, brakes definitely come on when you have the CC slow down for you.

Yes, real time speed control worked just the same. The only difference was what it did when CC was not engaged, i.e. when CC was not engaged you could change the setpoint for speed with moving the lever up or down and this works like on our W212 so that when you move it to the first stop it changes setpoint by one mph but if you go over the stop it jumps to the next full "5" increment and after that steps up 5 mph at the time. Just as it works in the W212 while it is engaged. In Audi it won't engage before you pull it towards you, i.e. resume.

The only time it would engage when moving the lever up or down was when you start driving and had not engaged CC yet at all but after that while it was engaged it worked exactly the same way as it does on W212. It just allows you to change speed setpoint after you touch brakes without engaging CC before you "resume" it.

i had know idea that the traction control would deactivate the cc,i dont know much about the new technology ,the last thing i remember about tc is in my TT supra(which i still have) and the tc was controlled by a butterfly in the trottle body which worked by giving the motor less air if the rear wheels start to spin, never had this promblem in any of my other vehicles and right now i own the w212,2011 QX56, 2009 LS460L,1994 ttSupra and 2005 S2000 cc works fine with tc off in all of them
