just figured out (

that converted mp3's (into data format) CAN play
in the car........anyone else already doing this??

Has been available for some years. It even lists the index and the track names laid down when the CD was made in the Comand screen - quite revolutionary in 2004/5.
My E500 has 120 gigs of Ipod, 6 CD's with about 75 indexed MP3's on each and it still has the built in hard drive which I have never needed to use.

I have downloaded 40 or so CD's onto the hard drive. Works great in case you forget to have your ipod in the glove compartment. Only drag is it takes about 12 minutes to download each CD onto the drive, so its best to do it on long road trips.
