When you hit a curb at speed
I'm overseas at the moment so no pictures.
My dad was driving the E-Class and apparently he miscalculated and hit the front right rim against the curb when he was making a right turn causing a 2" curb scratch and a couple inche strip of the rubber from the tire wall to come off.
I would imagine this to have been done with some speed and force. Other than the curb rash repair, do you think the car is going to need a new tire for safety? And would you guys recommend an alignment or is that overkill?
Many thanks. Car has 2000kms

I would repair the wheel, put on a new tyre if there is any damage at all to the sidewall and get a wheel alignment check although most of the newer cars require replacement of offset pins if any re-alignment is required and this is difficult to do outside a dealership.
I hope Dad will be paying - get him while he still feels guilty.

Definitely replace the tire if there is any sidewall damage. An alignment check may save you the cost of the replacement tire wearing quickly and unevenly..

I can’t see the damage to the tire but if it looks bad I would STRONGLY recommend that you replace it. High speed Front tire blowouts can be deadly. I almost lost an uncle to one; he missed a light pole by inches and just cracked his skull after hitting the ditch. I also had a coworker 360 on the highway because of one, luckily the road was empty and he didn’t go off the road. I would say you don’t need an alignment unless there is a change in steering/driving feel.
