Rims Won't Fit

I had a pair of rims on my 08 w211 4matic tires 245/35/20 rims 20 x 8.5 offset im not 100 percent sure either +35 or +45... So i went to try to put them on my w212 today and the front tires rub the struts! IS there any way around this??

If not what type of offset do i have to run with my tires 245/35/20 all around???

Same problem with me today. They will be putting 225/35/20 on the front tomorrow. I have 275/30/20 on the rear.

DO NOT use 225/35-20, use 245/30-20 or 255/30-20.

245/35-20 may not be enough for NYC's winter this year too. Unfortunately, because of the front perch that is used for W212 instead of the bolt that was used for W211, fitting this size upfront is next to impossible, that is why I suggested 255/30-20 (it will definetely fit). BTW, your W211 wheels had to be et35, not et45. You could not have fitted 245/35-20 for W211 front with et45 - it would rub on that bolt like crazy.

kk well i just bought new tires is there any possible way to run these tires with a different offset of a rim .Also i know this sounds CRAZY but if i hammered back the struts a little you think it would fit .Ive done it with a 6 series lol . Also someone suggested spacers but would this even help?
cause as you cna see i got them on the car but soon as i pulled away i felt the rub so its very close a little hammering might work lol

They put 1/2 spacer on mine and it didn't work. So no 225/35/20? I'll let them know. My offset are 35 for front and rear.

Two reasons:

1. Its obviously a too narrow fit for W212

2. Much more importantly, its load carrying capacity is only 90. Stock 18" tires are 97. The chance of front blowout with 90 load upfront is going to be very high for W212's front weight.

As I said before, if there is no way to fit 245/35-20, then use 255/30-20. 255s will fit on 8.5" wide wheel with offset between 33mm and 45mm.

JP2369 - Any updates on your current set up in regards to the 245/35/20 up front - I talked to a service manager at my local dealer and he ended up stating that the piece in your pic is a stable piece and it really does not really affect anything when you bend it a little or even shave it down a 1/4" or 1/2" inch. I think I am going have it shaved down about 1/4" and see if that will work with the 35 size tire - I wanted to see if you are still running that size and what your expierence has been. Please let me know. Thank you

Awesome thread! 245 30 20 seemed to be too low for NYC roads, so decided to go ahead and get a set of 245 35 20 wheels. A $30 grinder from the home depot and shaving off 3-4mm did the job (hammering the struts seemed to be too scary for me)

2011 e350 Wagon & 2004 e320
I know this is an old thread but just picked up my wagon and pretty much in the same position. Would you still have photos of your mod to the spring perch? If not, does anybody have an update on better solution on this. Thanks in advance.

Luckily I just converted my 2014 w218 from airmatic to a conventional suspension and got exact same problem people have with w212- 245/35/20 will rub. Had to shave down the spring seat. See photo. Then primed and painted.
Safe or not decide for yourself. My e350 was used like that for 2 years before given to my mother in law. At this point I would not suggest this mod to anyone especially if you live in north east. When tires are new they will rub a little bit for a couple miles no matter what and expose bare metal. As soon as my 245 35 20 wear down I'll switch to either 225 35 20 with a slight stretch or 255 30 20.
A better temporary solution would be to use spacers.
