For those who blacked out there tail lights what did you use 1.the spray can 2.
black tint 3. mercedes paint. If you can post some pics of them and what you option you used want to see what looks the best.

on my w211 i used mercedes black paint got it done at the shop but they were way to dark(put to many coats on).but they looked great. I dunno how the tint is going to look if it shows up too light.

Also my cars a lease so i dunno how mercedes would feel about them the tint of course comes off easy the paint prob dosent at all and i think the spray can might. Last time i swaped out my lights with someones regular ones so worked out.

Paints horrible for smoking rear lights for many reasons IMO.

Mine looks clean and almost OEM as heck, on both my old W211, and my new W212. I took it to a professional Tint/Vinyl/Sticker shop, and they use a special thicker Tint that's designed for lights (as opposed to windows). Make sure to get the LIGHTEST Tint possible. Against the red, it will still be dark, but it will have a cleaner, classier look, be less of a magnet to Police, let more light out, and look more dynamic.

Vinyl tint is fine and looks good

jp2369 03-09-2011 11:00 PM

Here ya go. Keep in mind, different lights and shades make a MAJOR difference in how dark they appear. It's a really cool effect, as sometime they look dark cherry, sometimes flat black, etc. This is a benefit only gotten when you go with a super light and clean Tint.

looks great so thats the vinyl tint right? im gonna bring it to my shop tommorow and get it done...thanks for the pics

K-A 03-09-2011 11:31 PM

Anytime! I think it's Vinyl? Actually, I didn't even think of it being as vinyl until now. I do know that it seems to have the same consistency as window tint ("plastic-glass" look), but is a lot thicker and more durable.

jp2369 03-09-2011 11:34 PM

yea prob vinyl i have it on my side markers looks good any when i have to bring the lease back easy to come off. i noticed that the tail lights have a point on the probbaly hard to wrap that hows yous look up close perfect cuts?

K-A 03-10-2011 12:57 AM

Yeah, perfect cuts. I brought that "point" up, because one guy told me he couldn't do it, or would charge more for it. It's BS!!!! Any good shop can wrap perfectly around those things, if they tell you that they can't, go to another shop! I wrapped my front markers too, best mod you can do for them IMO.

jp2369 03-10-2011 01:04 AM

sounds good tomo going to get it done and install the new grill

hyperion667 03-10-2011 06:44 AM

looks nice..............planning on getting my car tinted soon and also planning to tint
the front corner blinkers as well as the tails.........still not sure if I should do the red or white part......

K-A 03-10-2011 07:01 AM

Hyperion: For black I'd DEFINITELY do the white part. Not a fan of tinted tails on a black car personally, unless it's REALLY themed out ("murdered out", which is excessively blacked out). I've seen a black 212 with the white part tinted, and I was surprised at how good it looked (at least from a distance).

hyperion667 03-10-2011 07:03 AM

thanx KA, and LOL at 'murdered out'............
and the door panels didn't have to come off to tint right?

K-A 03-10-2011 07:12 AM

Noo way, if a place starts tearing off your door panels, grab your car and run. :D

hyperion667 03-10-2011 07:30 AM

my thoughts exactly.........just needed a second

I disagree. I think Paint is the way to go. I also like it when its not too dark.

K-A 04-13-2011 07:15 PM

That looks REALLY clean. The lighter the better to me too. Too dark looks cheap and ghetto.

MBNUT1 04-13-2011 09:35 PM

I am such an old man. I don't get the tinted taillight and black wheel thing

K-A 04-13-2011 09:53 PM

I'm as well not crazy about black wheels, although they look nice every now and then on some cars (needs complimenting mods to look right, usually, IMO).

I think the reason that I'm okay with light and classy/clean smoked tails is that, if you're looking at a car as an art-form (it is after all, a Design, an art-form, etc.), the red color doesn't always work or contrast well with certain colors or car setups. Slightly darkening the tails sometimes gives the car a more uniformed color coordination, just like blacking out or clearing out the amber markers.

I will say, about 10% of the tinted tails I see look good and classy, about 90% look cheap, and ghetto. A lot of it has to do with the car, the cars color, the complimenting mods (or lack thereof), and the darkness of the Tint.

I will say that 100% of factory tails on the E look good and classy to me. To me MB just nailed the design of the W212. That said, I like some of the tinted lights too. Just doesn't light me up the way it does to some.

Imperius*Rex 12-11-2011 09:29 PM

I was going to keep them red and just have the white center done in red also, now I am thinking of doing the center strip tinted to have it blend with the car. I don't think I want to go all black and the white bothers me more then the red. Anyone have pics with a black E and solid red or blacked out center only?

bharkey 06-14-2012 10:53 PM

Did you tint the white strip area or the red break light section or both? Thank you.

this one looks hot! me like a lot.

BenzV12 06-15-2012 04:44 AM

I seriously considering of buying clear led lights as well. My car being a black that would make a good combination .
If you watch Le Mans look at Audi LMP1 R18s' clear headlights , when they hit the the pit lane and stop the engine , I like the way they flash the lights :D
