NEW V6? (Direct injection..)

Does anyone know when the new, direct-injected V6 (350) will be appearing at dealers this year? It makes more than 300HP, which is a nice bump from the 268 right now.

And cheers everyone, my first post!

Interesting. I was hoping the engine and tranny refresh would happen sometime now, as I'm shopping around. Oh well..

Hi All-

Apologies in advance for continuing this topic when there is clearly no new information available re: whether the new engines will be available in the 2012 W212s in the U.S., but here goes...

I've mostly been skipping over these discussions and just focusing on the E350 I've got on order that will be here mid-late April. I figured it wasn't really relevant to me since my car was coming soon and the extra HP doesn't mean that much to me. But two pieces of information have begun to sway me:

1. The significantly improved fuel efficiency: When I read that the 350 CGI engine is up to 24% more efficient on fuel use compared to the current engine, that got my attention. I understand that this is a best-case number that probably won't be achieved in real-world driving, but there's no question that the new engine will take a huge leap in fuel efficiency.

2. Timing: The million $ question is whether this engine will be in the MY2012 E350. Somebody posted a comment the other day that makes me think that it will-- based on the fact that the new engine is in the 2012 C350, the poster wrote something to the effect of, "Mercedes can't allow the C350 to have more power than the E350." This is absolutely true and sways me to put my money on the new engine being in the 2012 E350.

I've actually played this game with Mercedes before. About 3 years ago my wife needed a new car and I "knew" that MBZ would come out with a GL550 (they initially launched the GL450 w/out a 550 in the lineup). I had rarely seen Mercedes offer only one engine/trim package on a car so it seemed obvious that the GL550 was coming, but every dealer I asked told me the same thing- "Nope. Don't know anything about it. Look at this beautiful GL450 I've got." So any denials from dealers on the question of the new engine in 2012 Es means nothing to me.

I sure hope some definitive information becomes available before my car gets here next month, but at this point I'm leaning towards waiting for the new engine in the E350. I generally keep my cars for the full duration of their lives and the 350 CGI engine is what I want in there for the long haul.

My advice is "if you can wait then wait"
If the new engine comes then you will buy a more powerful and more fuel efficient vehicle.
If it doesnt come you will still be buying a great car but 4-6 months later than you originally planned.

My advice, screw the gas engines and get a BlueTEC.
