So I have owned many cars 3 m3's 95 98 08, 2010 Mercedes e550 lemon lawed
I'm about to get another car need help loved 08 m3 but wanted a change so I got e550 nothing but problems love drive but a little numb feeling and not that quick. I can't decide between these 3
2011 m3 Dct cheapest 2 year lease 1000/mt
2011 550xi m sport add din an chip 1275/mt plus cash for chip
2011 e63 Mercedes 1750/mt a lot of money

I really didNt want same car again but m3 seems to be calling me I thought I would have like 550xi I test drove more but felt a little numb and sluggish handling. I really want to test 550xi with chip but I don't know any where on long island ny even if I can go for a ride in one
Any comments I handling would be great

I have an E550 on order. Would you mind telling me what kind of problems you had with yours? Did you buy it new? Were the problems engineering defects or just poor quality? Any Info would be appreciated.

It doesn't seem like you're asking much of a question here, as you practically have it figured out.

If I were in your shoes, and had a bad taste in my mouth toward the W212's due to a negative Lemon experience with one, I'd go for the 550i. M3 is cool, but I looked at it before my E350, and didn't find it to cater to enough of my needs. The 5-Series, even in its most base form, is a more substantial and thorough, Luxurious car, and not to mention the beginning of a production cycle, as opposed to nearing an end, like the M3. If you didn't own an M3 before, I'd probably say give it a stronger look, but IMO the 5-Series is calling your name.

Now if that turns out to be a Lemon, we'll see you back on the M-B Boards.

I was actually comparing both the 5-series and E when car shopping and decided on the E. Too many BMW's in S.FL. anyway

Suggest you do a lot of online research about the 2011 model 5 series BMW before purchasing one. Mine was a problem. I dumped it after 3 months rather than pursue the lemon law (although a lawyer wanted to take the case on a contingency basis). After experiencing the problems with mine, out of curiosity I did some online research only to discover other problems with the car.

BMW's record for recalling cars and/or stepping up to solve problems does not appear to be that good.

I think you would do better on the BMW site for info. Current BMW owners will have better insight than people driving MB with a certain bias.

Very few people here seem open minded enough to be critical about their own cars. Although that will be pretty much the same issue on the BMW forums.

He had his W212 E550 lemon'ed and ended up with a 2011 550ix F10. He'd know what life is like with a 550ix.

If you're considering the E63 you might want to wait until the M5 arrives. Although I agree that the 550i can probably be tuned to being close to M5 performance (same motor.)

His E was a major lemon so he usually says he can't give a valid judgement on the car, but he loves his F10, and says it surpasses his S550 in about every way except for size.

See, I told you!! The BMW heads have taken a hold of his judgement, we must save him!! Throw whatever Religious books you have in his car!!

To back up the M-B side. I'll give some reasons to stay with an E:

Quieter,
Smoother,
Airier cabin environment,
Not as porky,
Smoother more linear acceleration in stop and go traffic (pertaining to the 535i at least),
Less glare from the windshield, which many F10 owners complain about,
Some more thoughtful engineering habits (the way our Keyless Go works, for one).

For the BMW pro's, go ask them.

K-A, what you're misunderstanding is that the OP is not looking to buy a new E550. He had his lemon'ed already himself. He's looking to buy the M3, 550ix, or possibly an E63 although he said the lease payments are too high.

And anyway, he isn't really sincerely asking advice. It sounds more like he's announcing that his E550 was a problem car and he's looking to get a BMW again. If he was really interested in comments about the E63 as also an option, then he would have posted on the W212 AMG boards and had many comments by owners there........

So you can quit trying to start up the MB cheerleading squad

Brett, I think the smaller, but sportier M3 is what you are saying you want, as the 5-series and E-class are in much larger class.

No need for us Mercedes enthusiasts trying to sway you... but to be frank, maybe the C63 AMG rather than E63 is a more fairer comparison to M3.

Lol. I'm the first one who told him to go with the 550i, considering his experience. I'd have to be mad about a car to get the same thing after having a Lemon-esque experience.

Anyway, I'd rather more people buy 5-Series', as I have nothing to gain from E-Class sales, and it keeps less E-Classes on the roads.
