I just sold a 2008 E350 with only 16.5K on the clock. When the buyer had the dealer inspect it, the dealer said that the rotors were warped. The pads had 50% left. However, if you replace the rotors you replace the pads. I believe the price from the Mercedes dealer was around $660 to do the job.

I priced the parts from an independent MB parts supplier at slightly over $200.

I can't for the life of me understand how the rotors got warped. It was my wife's car and if anything the brakes weren't used hard enough.

It happens. It is all about heat and wheel torque. Over-torquing the wheels can definitely cause rotor warpage. Excessive heat can do the same. I suspect at one point in time the wheels were over-torqued, perhaps during a tire rotation/replacement.

The tires had been rotated more than once at this dealer and that's what I suspected from the start. They are supposed to use torque wrenches but they probably used impact wrenches. The rotors had never been overheated.

Interesting. Usually the owner knows when the rotors are warped before the service guy would. No vibration upon braking?

It was my wife's car. I drove it just before I sold it and although I didn't feel any vibration, I did think they were too sensitive.
