2005 E500 4matic

SORRY - I POSTED IN THE WRONG FORUM. I REPOSTED IN THE E500(211) FORUM.
My garage has informed me that the transfer case on my 2005 E500 4matic needs to be replaced. The car only has about 42,000 miles on it. I've asked the garage about trying to change the fluid per prior posts I read on this site, but they do not believe that it will fix the issue. I asked about whether the service/recall notice issued for transfer cases that I had read about on this site covered my car, but apparently the VIN number of my car was not included. I am beyond frustrated that the transfer case would go with so few miles. Is this typical for a Mercedes? If not, does contacting Mercedes (not the dealership) directly about the issue help? I'm thinking about simply giving up on Mercedes and making this car my last.
