Is this what the dealer is giving you for a trade?
That is low, very low.
I never take less than KBB.

What are you trading for?

Yes this is dealer trade. Since it's a 2011, Kbb etc. does not have info yet. Not sure what I will be trading for, but it's time to move on.
Family is growing. 2nd baby is coming in Oct, so it may have to be a minivan.

Yea but the the suggested trade-in for a 2010 is $54k so I dont see why they are offering $48k for a 2011.
OMG I cant believe you said the "M" word on this forum.
Get a GL450 instead.

Yeah. These guys must be smoking something real good. Still a toss up between suv/crossover/minivan. Right now, van seems to be the most logical.

Condolences on possibly joining the Minivan-Life Club.

That is really low of a resale. That is a bit of miles on a 2011, but $48K is a terrible price to sell for, and an amazing price to buy that car for.

that sounds terrible.....really low...
would it be possible to wait a bit?

these cars should be valued at a higher price......especially a 550...especially with 4M.....if you have that.....since they won't even have 4M next season....
I will be very interested to see what I get for mine too when I trade it in
for the e63.......going to drive a couple tomorrow!

my dealer says the need for high end used cars is climbing, so that should make the resale climb too.......but he might just be blowing some smoke.............

The '12 E550's all are getting 4M actually, which should actually make the 2WD 550's really sought after for the V8 enthusiast.

Also from what I've heard, the Used Car market is at an all time high right now, which makes it a bad time to buy for shoppers (New Cars are much better values for once). I remember in '08/'09 you could get 1 year old cars for the same price (or less) than what you can pay for the exact same car now, counting the fact that those same cars are now 2-3 years older and higher in mileage.

Sell it privately.

I usually go the trade-in route, knowingly and willingly leaving cash on the table compared to private party sale, but I can't invest the time in placing in ad when I may not be able to reply to an interested caller when I'm out of state or out of the country. Trade then becomes a convenience expense.

If you have time to sell privately, you may get considerably more.

3 2010's currently for sale in my area per Cars.com. 9K and 17K in miles, but each with different equipment packages. Asking price for each is in the $57K range. These are shown as coming from eleasereturns.com. (NO affiliation with either source, just trying to help by relaying values).

That is a horrible price. That car probably had a sticker of $71,000 and a decent price would have been $64,000. If they give you $48,000 that is 25% depreciation in a year!! Additionally, the 2012 e550s won't have airmatic from what I hear which should be worth a something as well. What we don't know is what kind of deals that they are giving right now on new 2011s. That is what you need to know do help determine just how incensed you should be. By the way, I have an Acura MDX as the family people mover and like it a lot except for the aweful gas mileage(I like it with the technology package but did not like the advanced package because of the active suspension which was too hard in sport and too soft in comfort). Regards. Ned.

Yeah, that's low. Way low but I do wonder if dealers are going to start hosing people with pre 2012 cars due to their outdated engine?? I'm sure the dealers will be touting the V8 turbo to be worth more than the outgoing n/a v8. Better trans, better gas mileage and more power will most definitely bring the value of 2011 and before down unfortunately. The outgoing v8 car will only appeal to enthusiasts.

HTN75,

Just for the sake of comparison, I see you have a BMW 550i GT as well. I don't know how MSRP compares to the E550 when new, but Cars.com shows examples with asking price for 550i GT's from $54k-$58K with similar mileage, so quite comparable to the M-B on the used market.

The first year suffers considerably with most models.

Good luck with the total deal for whatever you choose!! And congratulations in advance for the new family addition!!

I'm 35, but look fairly young. LOL... this is true though especially when I'm bummed out. Sales guy gave me the song and dance on how low it will be priced since x,y and z. Can't stand these damn sales guys that think they know everything. Don't get me wrong, I'm in Sales myself. The guy kept on setting me up for the low low numbers etc. He then proceed to say ask if I would sell today even if I don't buy from them. I politely said no and that I've purchased 15 cars to date.
Good thing is I have all the time in the world and we have plenty of cars to drive. I'll wait for a better deal all around.
Please post up trade-in or private sell price if you've done it.

BTW... had 2010 mdx traded it in for 550i GT. Great trade-in price!

The MDX's do hold their value well. Good people movers. Why did you sell? Regards. Ned.

No disrespect intended, just joking around .

I'm new to both MB and this forum and I'm amazed at the incredible wealth of knowledge here along with the thoughtful analysis, both positive and negative, that you and so many other members provide so freely.

Plus, so far, the car's a hell a lot of fun!

I was referring to me not you!! It makes owning the car lots more fun when we can all compare notes and our experiences, good or bad. I know that most of us on this forum understand that we are all extremely fortunate to be able to afford such cars. That said, we also all love to banter about all things Mercedes big and small, beat things to death till exhaustion sets in. All and all, I am enjoying my e550 very much. Regards and welcome aboard!! Ned.

Thank You. I've been trading out cars every 6 months to a year. Not a very good or healthy habit I konw. Perhaps the minivan will keep me grounded.

Do you really need a minivan? Unless you have more than 3 children, I suggest you keep the E550. I have seen couples that don't have kids and they drive a minivan, what gives right??? Need a big car that can seat a lot, I suggest Acura MDX.

I asked for at least 55 for a trade but that was scoffed upon and regarded as
uncertain.....
I may just keep it..........

but then how funny would two E's look next to each other? even if one WAS a 63?
lol.....
