Whenever I see a MB on the road that I think is an AMG, I automatically roll down the window a bit to take in the aural delight. You can’t de-badge or fake that.

Slightly related, but I saw a White E63 with Pano and tinted windows driving by the other day..... Whooo was that a nice sight. The front end is really out of this world (fortunately, it doesn't look much different than our Sport E-Classes ). Super stately yet aggressive/sporty at the same time.

I guess my feeling are - I don't see anything wrong if someone Debadge their automobile - It's their automobile but... Why take off the E350 and keep the 4matic? I love the cleaner look - It's all or nothing in my opinion... At the end of the day it's not my auto...

I agree, leaving the 4Matic only, doesn't make sense. I actually don't like that emblem at all, looks rather utilitarian and cluttered back there.
I was at an M-B Dealer the other day, and they had quite a few E-Classes with AMG badges on the right side. So distasteful, especially considering a Dealer has them on, and some poor schmoe will buy the car all happy with it, probably thinking it came on from the factory.

and he is the only one to give the car a second (and admiring look) he is also the one that can tell a fake right away.
Whatever, great cars, but it is human nature to try to impress thy neighbor or advertise something you don't have...Silicone breast implants anyone?
For a while I made my living as a Yacht Captain: The boat I was driving had 2 Sat-Com Antenna domes over the flybridge..I thought it was a good idea, a primary and a back-up.
Going over the ship's paperwork and checking the files for a receipt while I was doing a warranty claim, I found the details on the 2 Sat-Com domes:
One was real, the other one was empty, or a fake...
Some Mega Yachts carry helicopters, occasionally they carry a fake helicopter, the ultimate in re-badging, or little dick upmanship...
Human Nature and extremly fragile egos, but if it floats your boat.

Actually, I think lots of people simply don't believe that form follows function... so if they like the form they adopt it regardless of function. Those who can't fathom form not exclusively following function will have a fit. Especially if that function is somehow correlated to the perceived size of their wallet.

BLAH BLAH BLAH, who cares what people do with their cars, as long as they are happy with it. Some people like black grilles, some don't. Some like black wheels, or 19" or 20", some people think stock is best. I appreciate all vehicles that people post on this forum, even if I don't like them, it just shows that you are happy with your car and want to show it off. I for one, have a amg badge on the right side of my e550 and I don't care what people think. I think it looks good. It still says e550 next to it so I'm not trying to pretend I have a 63. My wheels say amg on them from the factory. I would really like to de badge, but I am proud that I finally got a 550 coming from a 350 prior and leave it on there. Who knows, maybe my next one will finally be a 63 and it will have a, "REAL" AMG badge.

Porsche 991S, Cayenne S, 1972 BMW 3.0CS E9 Coupe
fwiw, Porsche offers a "model designation delete" option here in the US. There are two brand new 2011 Turbo S models here in town that have no badges.
I have a feeling that this badge/no badge thing seems more dear to Mercedes owners than any other marque. No doubt since historically/culturally Mercedes has been known as the marque for badge ****** and those seeking status. The marque of dictators and rap stars, etc..

When I bought my Boxster S, it came with the badge, but then my detailer had a loose thread on the wash mitt and broke the "B," which was known to be very easy to happen. When I arrived to pick up the car, he had already gone to the dealership to purchase another badge and was in the process of completing the de-badge of the original. Once removed, I liked the clean look and left it de-badged. I still have the car and the badge.
My 997S came with "model designation delete." After it was rear-ended while parked, the body shop ordered the badge mistakenly but did not attach it. The badge went with the car when traded in for the Cayenne S, which is de-badged. Not trying to hide the model, and pointless anyhow as the Turbo has other body design elements (hood for one) and brakes that clearly ID the up-market version from standard S, but the badge seemed too big. Most people ask if it is the 6 cylinder assuming I'm trying to hide a lesser model.
The badge remains on my 350.

Unfortunately, this is true. Most M-B "enthusiasts" are in it for braggart reasons. As I like to say, there are two kinds of M-B enthusiasts.

Each to their own, don't ask me why, but when I ordered my S65 AMG, I requested the "Model Designation" including the "V12" off, everything off. That's just it, my dealer whose been selling us Mercedes for more than 40 years, just remarked "Absolutely Amazing" you the 1st S65 buyer in South Africa to ask for this.
They still supplied all badges for the cars in nice AMG stainless container.

2011 E350 4-Matic Sport
I de-badeged my black 350 as well...not for poser purposes but just for a cleaner look. Here in MI usually every E class on the road is a 350 - 4 matic or amg.
Even when i purchased mine, i wanted to test the 550, or even a RWD, but dealer says that they are "order only", due to them not being popular i guess. But its funny how mercedes Rochester and Bloomfield (upper class neighborhoods) have all the smaller engine models that are loaded with options, along with quite a few AMG's. Its either you buy a 350-4matic or an AMG! No median lol.

2011 Mercedes E550 4M, 2003 BMW X5 4.4i
I got a 2011 E550 in Iridium Silver, so the chrome on the car won't be noticeable. You can still see the E550 badge but it less noticeable on a silver car than on a black car. God I hate chrome, I wish mercedes can remove the side and rear chrome trims.
