On many an occasion, I have noticed trucks skirt the edge of the highway, on purpose, if you follow too closely, so that they can spew rocks at you...

Yeah, it's an unfortunate reality to heavy (especially Highway) use of your car.
I'm driving my car a lot on Highway trips for work, etc., and if I don't get a replacement to my old "work-horse" second car soon, I'm just gonna keep driving the E, and I'm gonna stop being so **** about it, since chips and pits and such are inevitable. Fortunately, I can always flip that switch since I'm Leasing, considering baby-ing the car is only psychological in this case anyway, as it won't do me any good in the long run.

Sorry to hear. Happened to me when my e550 was a week old. Nonetheless some of these posts remind me of the old saying "a ship is safe in its harbor....but thats not what ships were built for".

This is my first benz and i baby this car. Im so disappointed i try to keep this car car pristine but it keeps getting trashed. Ive upgraded this ride 5k or more, but it just gets beat up. Ive said it before and ill say it again im trading in every couple years. My next target cls iridium and f it let it get trashed, because despite the fact im a benz fanatic nothing last forever.

At least you can replace your windshield with OEM glass. First week of my W212, one day in front of BestBuy one careless high school kid with a cheap fixed up Nissan opened his door next to me hit my car and left a mark on my door. Now I rather park little big far and make sure there are extra space on both side, but hard to do that every time though.

Depends on the day...
I feel your pain. I just had my entire windshield replaced (couldn't be fixed otherwise) and the next day I left for North Carolina. Half way there a truck blasted by and threw a rock smack into it and broke it again. Brand friggen new, only had it one day.

That is pure evil!!! Problems is out here in NC and MO there are too many farm machinery and unregulated trucks w/o flaps etc using the highways. Thats the cost of living in farming areas. Could be worse cruisin down the 405 in LA and bam sofa, dishwasher, ladder you name it ive seen it when i lived in Socal. I was always good at avoiding debris, but flying rocks nothing to do but say not again
