Autocar Test: New M5 VS E63 VS Jag XF (E63 in for the upset victory?! :D)
Credit to Soup from German Car Forum for the initial post to these Pics:

BMW had to cost cut this era of cars' chassis/construction costs, as apparently they couldn't afford/didn't want to afford lightweight and advanced materials (aluminum, light weight High Strength Steels, etc.) very generously like they had on their previous, purely advanced for their times 5-Series'.
I'll bet that BMW's next gen will have much more advanced materials usage, and will be dramatically lighter, following in Audi's footsteps, and M-B's, who state that the next generation E-Class will be 300-400 lbs lighter than this generation.
For the record, the W212 is full of advanced light weight High Strength steels, and the car is actually lighter than both the F10 and new A6 (surprising to me as M-B's usually are thought to weigh more, and the W212's overall feel is more substantial than the F10's IMO).

I am really amazed at Hyundai's ability to craft a car like the Genesis (nearly S class sized) and keep it below 4000 lbs. The have their own steel mills and use their own high strength steels for strength and weight savings. The next generation Genesis could be a contender in this competition.
