OTOH, with a $30K Japanese car, I'll overlook a lot of stuff, if only because my expectations are lower and I hate the the time involved, not to mention a chincy dealer policy on loaners.

So, IMO, the "reliability" measurements are skewed in favor of the lower priced cars simply because of owner expectations and behavior.

(Of course, my last Japanese car, a $40,000 2005 Toyota Avalon, was a disaster: blown engine twice, once with oil all over the road; tranny dying; power door locks dying @ $450 each; wouldn't hold alignment, ruining tires --- and I'm a very conservative driver. "Gee, he said, maybe I ought to get a MBZ!")

I agree, when spening this/that much you want some assurances you know??
that blows about your toyota, now that sounds like a nightmare
I've only had one honda, and it was actually pretty good; kind of miss that car, it was my only stick shift ever......
sold it for 700 bux, lol.....

I expect everything to work on a new car correctly regardless of what I pay for it. I once purchased a "stripper" Datsun B210. At first service, I gave them a list of everything that was not correct. Fortunately not very much due to Datsun/Nissan very high quality. Same with every car I have ever purchased.
BTW, my comment re CR reliability report was incorrect. The chart was for ALL M-B's, not just the E class.
As for loaners, I think that is up to the dealership whether to provide one or not.

2014 E550 4matic,, sold 2012 E 350 4matic,,sold 2010 e350 4w,sold 2002 e320 se
In 03 my 02 E320se started rusting,,,they painted it,,in 04 I found more ,,,they painted it. Why I didnt invoke the lemon law?? Cause the car was the finest, most nimble sedan I ever drove. So to emphasize the point, its all according to what you can tolerate. When I traded it in,,I got over book value,,unheard of from any dealer.
Meanwhile this car is sweet and Im sure I'll find things I dont like down the road, but so far so good
