Do you have an altimeter in your car??? Where does it show up...on the comand console or in the center of the dash? I wonder if US cars have this but it's disabled (like the internet).

It's probably on the compass screen on the E class. In case you were unaware you can enable COMAND Online in about 30 seconds. Search the forum for engineering mode.

I'll look for a compass screen....I didn't know I had one

Yes, I know how to enable the internet function...I just need to get a phone that supports the proper interfaces. Once I have that, I'm not sure what I'll use the internet for, other than to demo.

In my Compass Screen (2012 E350 Coupe, US) it shows the Altimeter, Compass, and the Steering Wheel Angle. Kind of neat.

One would think that setting ones "units of measure" to "kilometers/celsius" rather than to "miles/Farenheit" the altimeter would automatically read meters rather than feet.I just might check it out in my Bluetec in preparation for the next time I visit Canada!

(But I aways keep everything in "miles/Farenheit" while there anyway )

I have COMAND 4.5 and didn't have the steering wheel angle and elevation until I went in Engineering menu and changed the compass to the SUV mode. Now, my screen has the angle and the elevation. I also enabled the M class ON/OFFROAD display, but all it shows is steering angle. THe percent downgrade/upgrade doesn't show b/c the E class probably doesn't have the sensors.

Wow!!! thanks for finding that tip....I'll make the change in engineering mode this morning.

Why would Mercedes turn that off showing steering angle in the e class????

We now know how to enable internet and steering angle on comand 4.5....what other goodies are hiding in engineering mode?

I don't have the new Comand and I have an altimeter. It's under the compass function (can't recall exact details at the moment). However, even though I don't have the 4.5 I think I have some kind of intermediate step-up version. My Bluetec's a February 2011 build.

to enable internet, try this thread.....

https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...nd-online.html

Listerone: I believe there were a few cars built in June that had the new color dash and comand 4.0...but I think your car probably has the older dash and comand 4.0. You can tell which comand version you have by the slot in the middle of the dash under the on/off button. If it's a long slot right below the button, you have comand 4.0....if it's a much smaller slot below the button but off to the left (sdcard size), then you have 4.5. The other giveaway for 4.5 is that it has a globe on the right (after system) on the menu on the top of the display.

I just did a search for "engineering" and came up with nothing...surprisingly.I'd love to know how to get into "engineering mode" if somebody would point me in the right direction via a link or a search phrase.

IIRC the fact that climate settings appear at the bottom of my screen is said to mean that I have some kind of hybrid version...somewhere between basic 4.0 and the current 4.5.at least that's what I recall having read...here,I believe.Yes,I have the older PCMCIA slot instead of the newer SD slot.

Have you tried to change your general settings to metric? IIRC Britain uses miles rather than kilometers so perhaps changing over to metric will change that along with other things.Sorry,I don't know how to enter engineering mode but,it seems, that might not be necessary in your case.

Interestingly, my car (2012 E350 Coupe with P2 Package, Parktronic with Parking Guidance, Active Curve Illumination headlamps, etc., etc.) came from factory already showing the steering angle on the Compass screen by default. I did not need to go into the Engineering mode myself to enable it.

Regards,

I believe that with the US owners manual (could be different with European models) starting on about page 229 it shows how to change various settings.I'm almost certain that the miles/kilometers setting is one of them.If that doesn't work it could be another setting.

You have to press these three keys, "hangup + # + 1 ...

Warning: You can really foul up your car by making changes incorrectly....if you go into engineering mode, you are on your own and any problems you create may be costly or require dealer assistance to fix.

Excellent...many thanks. If I make any changes at all (highly unlikely, given your warning) I'll research things thoroughly and, very probably seek guidance here, before proceeding.
