Whole in Exhaust made me faster

So this is kinda of embarasing, but I ran over a triagle parking concrete curb in the middle of a parking lot with a tree stub about 6 to 8 inches sticking out in the middle. I felt like an idiot and wanted to cry. I really love my cars.
Anyway it's at Fletcher Jones collsion center getting fixed. After I did my dumb move, the car was making noise and it went with acceleration and deceleration. So I know I f'd something up. Long story short. I put a whole through my fire protecent layer, the sound layers and the exhaust. I swear the car felt noticibly faster after my mishap. At first I thought I was nuts, but after learning the exhaust had a whole I must have been bypassing the cats or the resenator or something. Anyway I want that power to stay, although the noise was something awful.

Yeah, I bet it was the sound as well. I used to have a Mustang GT, and went from Flowmaster exhaust (already loud), to a full muffer-less (straight pipe) exhaust, and it *sounded* race car fast. In fact, I'm certain the car actually lost some low end torque (and it killed gas mileage).

BTW, it's "hole".

Well loss of back pressure is the last thing to be concerned about on an engine like this. The massive catalytic converters provide all the back pressure you need. Also you don't "lose" and and low end torque per-say. You just move the torque band higher up in the RPM range.

I would add an x-pipe close to the factor downpipes so get some more power out of the engine. I'd have to do some math to determine the proper placement and diameter but it would really help the car

Unless you ripped the headers off of the engine, the hole is very unlikely to do anything other than make it louder. You experienced the grownup version of putting a playing card into your bicycle spokes. The back pressure reduction would be minimal, and the flow characteristics would likely be totally whacked. In any event, not too much changed because no sensors reported anything wrong. Vrooooooooom!!!!

One more thought....If extra power and performance could be achieve by simply putting a hole in the exhaust, I would imagine that would be pretty thoroughly discussed on the web.
