You know, the Audi, Lexus, and other FWD luxury cars have the same complaints about MB and BMW being RWD biased and therefore not as good in inclement weather.
Truth be told, AWD wouldn't be at the consumer level if it weren't for the rally successes of AWD FWD cars like Audi and Subaru.
Each type of driveline has advantages and disadvantages and - quite frankly - none of us here on the board ever drive our cars to the extremes where anyone would notice the differences.

The es shouldn't be mentioned in the company of the c, 325 or a4. It is one of the dullest driving experiences on the road, for the blue haired crowd!! Regards. Ned.

And even the Town Car and the DTS have the virtues of being the last of the American car as boat relics!!!! I have a warm spot in my heart for them. I once owned a 1970 two door Lincoln!! The mobile living room, a party on wheels, pass the bong!!!! Regards. Ned.

Y'know, I'm a big guy, and I take long road trips in the west. And I've rented Town Cars and DTS's for some of those trips (why put 4,000 miles on your good car?). I absolutely loved the smooth ride of those tanks --- right up until I turned the wheel into a corner and the car plowed like a mule stuck in wet mud!

Lexus' problem with the ES/GS is that the ES cannibalizes the GS's Sales. They try and Market the ES as a "smaller car", but it's a Mid/Full Size car, dimensions in line with the E-Class/5-Series/A6/GS.
The new GS, which is a relative disaster on the styling front, with boring/bland sides and back and a hilariously overwrought and overdesigned front end trying to make up for that simplistic nature elsewhere, rendering it incomplete (it would have been a clean and concise, simple, fine if not dull yet at least understated looking Japanese Sedan with a more elegant and simple front) has pretty much crushed the F10 5-Series in its attempt to go more "Lexus" in sporting dynamics in current Magazine articles coming out. Looks like the roles are starting to reverse.....

Posted on the BMW Board:
Quote "We spent some time on a road course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway pitting the GS 350 F Sport against a Sport Package-equipped BMW 535i. While the Bimmer was quicker in the straights, the Lexus carved through corners with less body lean and drama. We aren’t quite ready to proclaim the GS as the segment’s most fun-to-drive offering, but Toyoda-san’s push toward precision has made this contest a draw."

Quote "So, to add some sporting flavor to the new GS, Lexus fitted a Helmholtz-type resonator that pipes the engine's induction noises into the cabin. The contrast to an older GS 350 that we had on hand was startling. While not really noisy, the new GS 350 provides a fantastic aural accompaniment to performance driving while retaining the hushed atmosphere of a luxury car when operated at modest speeds."

.... To note, the GS posted much better slalom and lateral G figures than the 5-Series, by a decently wide margin as well.

2014 E550 4Matic with P1/LED/Pano
I cross-shopped the 2010 A6 3.0T and thought the engine was great but limited to the Tiptronic. The S5 Coupe I set out to be was unimpressive and the S5 Cabrio with 3.0T and Steptronic transmission nailed it just right, but I didn't want to spend 70 large for it. Ended up buying the Benz instead but I'm considering the A7 or an A6 Avant for the wife (if/when they bring it back with the 3.0T)
