2012 E350 engine hood not locking concerns.

I saw a 2012 E350 at the Phoenix car show. I noticed the driver's front corner engine hood was loose. It was very obvious and the hood looked out of lignment. I called over a person in the booth and asked them about this. They admitted it looked really bad.

I bring this up as I have seen other forum members with pictures showing this problem. Anyway, when this person came over, he took both hands on the front corner and pushed really hard downward on the hood and you could hear it "click" into place. The hood looked okay after that but you really have to push it down to actually close both locks at each corner.

Thought I'd just pass this along.

I've found that unless you use some muscle closing the hood this will happen on my Bluetec.IOW you can't just let gravity close the hood as you can with some cars.

You need to place your hands on each side of the front of the hood and then firmly press down and to the rear.

There is also a way the hood latch can be locked into a released position, and slamming the hood all day won't latch it. The latch has to be reset in an active condition. I watched a tech do that to my new 550 that wouldn't latch on delivery.

How is this a concern? You drop the hood from a reasonable height and it will lock shut on both sides. It's not fragile.

I was unable to get mine to latch on both sides after the first attempt. Second attempt I provided a little extra momentum when dropping. Solid thud later, it latched just fine.
