Distance To Empty Indicator

Several times I've tried to get my tank real low just as an experiment.I tried again today and got it down to something like 38 miles but then an icon showing a car next to a pump appeared.I've read that you can make that change to a number (as before) by pressing the "OK" button.Tried that,no luck.Is it possible to change the icon?

I think that when it gets really low (i.e in the low-mid double digits) it just defaults to the Gas Pump symbol, and no number is available. Probably due to it being so close at that point, that it would be impossible to give perfect accuracy, which could cost the manufacturer headaches/lawsuits when drivers inevitably trust the meter down to the very last mile displayed.

This seems to be the way that about all cars have it set up.

I guess it makes sense that MB's legal department might have insisted on the current setup. My recently departed BMW,however, went right down to zero and even *below* zero (*I* never did that but I've read that that's the case).I could swear, however, that I read somewhere (here, perhaps?) that that symbol could be shut off and numbers would reappear.Maybe I was hallucinating.

Let me know if anyone figures it out. I would make the change.
