Uhhhh, half an inch? The outside diameter of the tire will always be the same. By increasing the wheel diameter you decrease the sidewall by half of that amount. 17 to 18 is a half inch, 17-19 is one inch and so forth.

Well I guess thats not gonna make a whole lotta difference then.Just sold my 02 Spec Ed. wheels on ebay so Im going to make my mind up soon. The Mandrus Multis in 18,,or the TSW's..I really like them both for different reasons.

As for road hazards,,the 18's most likely will be fine as long as I really look for the craters.

Think of it this way. Our tires have an outside diameter of about 25.5 inches. A 17 inch wheel will have a 4.25 inch sidewall (25.5 minus 17 = 8.5 divided by 2 = 4.25) The 18" wheel with have a 3.75 inch sidewall - a significant difference.

Makes sense, every inch you go up in wheel size.. tire loses 1/2" of side wall. It's your personal preference what looks better to you, and if losing a 1/2" of side wall makes that big of a difference up against the nyc pot holes. I owned a pair of tsw's i can tell you they make a strong wheel, but on any given day if you hit the rite pot hole it is very possible to damage a wheel.

So true,BTW Mandrus is a subsidiary of TSW,so the quality wont suffer. And I bent AMG rims just as easy as aftermarket stuff.

Lately tho Im reconsidering the on/off with 2 sets of wheels. If so Im leaning on keeping stock rims for snow.,Dunlops SP Wintersports possibly.

The TSW's in 18 is leading the charge with maybe Michelin Pilot SS's. CEB made me think of how much better dedicated snows are in winter.

Yes you cant go wrong with a proper winter setup with winter tires. Nothing wrong with just using your stock setup for winter use, unless your willing to spend the extra $ on winter tires. If your considering aftermarket wheels IMO theres no reason to get rid of your stock wheels(and living in nyc/nj area you should absolutely take the aftermarket wheels off in the winter months). Its not only the salt that can destroy the finish of a wheel, its the fact that a massive pothole may not be fixed until end of march/april. And many aftermarket wheels are paired with low profile summer tires that are not rated well for cold weather. Not like your going to be racing around nyc streets.

Yep you certainly did,,but for the other hazards of NYC??I got something for them too. I have a better chance tripping on a homeless guy with 6 neckties and two left sneakers.
