Not directly in this thread but you have in another, making statements about better off flushing the cash down the toilet and E550 owners needing to justify their extra expense for getting the V8, even in this thread by saying that there was not enough value in the E550 i.e. a waste compared to the adequate 350.

I have stated many times why I disliked the E350 and it has nothing to against individual owners, it's against MB itself. (keep in mind I am only comparing 2010-2011 models, discussing the 2012 E350 with 306HP is a moot point) If arguing value, a 268HP V6 sedan with no Xenons or leather as standard is overpriced. just about all of the E350 competitors (535i, GS350, XF, M37) either offer at least 300HP and some or all of these options and more as standard or part of the basic premium package for the same price for less, others maybe more but you also get full maintanence coverage as well. If my E550 didn't fall into my lap at a price I could not refuse, most certainly I would be driving a 535i now.

 

By the way, you do realize the first person to call out E350 owners for debadging is another E350 owner (according to his sidebar info), NOT an E550 owner. Then E350 owners started bashing E550 owners WTF?

 

This is the most ridiculous conversation ever, far from the original question. Can't we just answer the question asked , instead of bashing each other. This forum has too many people that get involved with post that don't even relate to them, and one of them constantly answers with secret hidden digs on people. None of us know one another, we are on here to get information in which we might need, and many on here are very knowledgeable. Lets just stick to helping each other out without the digs and bashing.

 

I can honestly say, I have never seen an AMG(any model) de badged.

and one reason I did debadge that one is to draw a little less attention you know? because it is an AMG and that clean look is really fresh looking...
but, I honestly don't mind letting people see the 550 on deadbeat......
I think the assumption that MOST people do not really always understand exactly what all the numbers mean........
but I'll bet a lot of people think they stand for some sort of horsepower....
when I was looking at my 550, I didn't even consider the v6, because I knew I wanted to have a v8.....and that narrowed the shopping down a lot right there

LOL. Well said. This Forum is utterly dysfunctional, though, all Forums seem to go down the same route.

The "small ****" metaphor is just that. I'm not calling out all "larger motor" owners as "small ****/complex holders", I'm saying those who are braggart and boastful about them, "belittling" those who drive cars with smaller motors. It's a very common personality trait, kind of like how "Napoleon Complex" is, but it absolutely doesn't apply to EVERYONE, or close to everyone who the description can technically fit.

My statement was initially "giving some back", because what I was saying is that for every E350 owner who debadges to hide their own inferiority complex, there's an E550 owner who might like the clean look better, but keeps their badge on to misguidedly convey some superiority complex (which is actually an inferiority complex itself). Neither are an "every case" scenario, but it's a rationale assumption.

Sound and smoothness/refinement is vastly what I like most about the V8 motors, the HP issue isn't a big deal to me. However, I feel that M-B did a good job with the smoothness of the 3.5L, though it certainly isn't as smooth as the 5.5L.... it's not a night and day difference though, in that regard, IMO.

You're confusing this as to it being me making an "umbrella statement". Clearly in these discussions I voice my support over why I chose the V6. To "me" there isn't enough value in an E550 VS an E350, hence my choice of car. If both cost the same price, I'd pick an E550, but I wouldn't find the car superior to an E350, just with different characteristics. If I required more power than what I have now, then yes, the E550 would be of utmost value. However, never have I found the E350 to be slow, and I don't require a 5.5L V8.

 

And why is a black roof "posing as Pano"? Why would you assume that I care about having Pano as some sort of status seeking object? I had Pano in my 2010, and I traded it in on my 2011 sans Pano. I love Pano, but what I miss was the look of a black roof. I don't care about what others who focus so much on complexes and "status" think, so it wouldn't affect my decision in making my car look best to my tastes.

Don't you have CF mirror covers (if you don't then I'll use it as an example anyways)? Wouldn't that be the ultimate in posing. I mean, you can't prove that my vinyl black top is supposed to imitate glass.... It's just supposed to be black, however a fake CF piece glued onto a painted base is the ultimate in attempting to fool an observer.

Where I draw the line, in terms of flat out posing, is at false badging, i.e RE-badging. I'm a huge proponent against that.

 

First, no 550 owner bashed or made any comments about debadging, a 350 owner started bashing 550 owners based what another 350 owner said, where's the logic, this is what I am trying to point out and why the thread is pointless and stupid

yeah i have CF (not fake) side mirror covers and a CF spoiler, I love it, but there is no factory CF trim options I am trying to sidestep, it's a modification just like tinting the tails which we both have, how is that the ultimate attempt to fool an observer...there are no CF side mirrors/spoilers available from the factory...weak argument

for the record, debadge your cars all you want (never had a problem with it), but bashing another group (in this case 550 owners) for something NO 550 owner did is just plain stupid and disrespectful to others...anyway, the forum was getting boring and stale lately so I thought i'd add some spice to my posts...fun for a while but now it's getting repetitive... hope no one's taking anything too personally, as many have stated before, we all have nice cars and should appreciate them as is, regardless of our mods done to our personal tastes... i'm done

PS, this does not include rebadging or putting AMG badges on non-AMG models, which is entirely unacceptable. uh-oh, another can of worms

 

I'm the last person to take things personal via a Message Board, so indeed, nothing personal.

Nobody was bashing E550 owners. It was pointed out that some E350's will remove their badges to try and fool people into guessing that they have a bigger engine, and it was also worth pointing out that some E550 owners would prefer the clean look, but will keep their badges on just to "show off". At least two Members here even admitted that they'd keep an E550 badge on their car, so show it off, however find the badgeless aesthetic to look objectively better.
