burning cd to hard drive

Has anyone been doing this? I tried it once and it takes forever. I even left the ignition on so it would finish while sitting in the garage.

I have done it, and yes it does take forever.
I loaded Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Weld. Both Discs.
Start it and take a drive. its pretty much the only time i listen to the car and not music !

Yup,I've done it.About 2,200 songs taking up about 9.8GB of the 10GB available.Took me several months...a bit here,a bit there and one or two long drives.I love my Bluetec but, given that I converted my CD collection to MP3s several years ago, loading my music collection onto my BMW's hard drive took about 15 minutes versus hours and hours and hours for the Bluetec!

IMO leaving your ignition on may not be wise.Replacement of these batteries costs hundreds.Long drives might be your best answer.

+1.

When I first took delivery, I had grand plans to load up those 10gb of Music Register with all my stuff, but I ran out of patience fairly quickly with the slow recording pace.

I also discovered the Sirius radio, which I never had before, now have Comand glued to a few Sirius channels and will buy a subscription when the free trial ends. Yet another monthly bill, thanks to those sneaky marketing b**##!!s.

Lol. Never thought I'd learn something new at this point in the experience!

I guess I gotta give that a try. Now that my Sirius is expiring, and I'm seemingly too cheap to renew it (it's extremely beneficial to me right now since I'm still using this car for my long distance work drives), I'm gonna have to get aggressive with the CD business.

You guys do know that you can renew for about $80 plus tax per year, right?

My notice said somewhere in the $100's. Main reason I didn't renew is because I was planning on getting another car for those drives (which I'd get Sirius in that for), but now I might not. It expires tomorrow so I better think quick, lol.

Why bother? I put all my MP3s on a USB stick and plugged it into the glovebox with the adapter cable. I manage my library of songs on my PC and add new songs every now and then. This is sooooo much easier.

I'm surprised that it doesn't let you copy from a USB stick onto the 10G drive.

I haven't tried it and was planning on it. But, after reading how long it takes I'll stick to just using my old ipod. The interface is great with the ipod's anyway and I can make changes to the library so easily.

My commute is about 25 miles each way. I can burn a CD or two on each commute, depending upon the volume of the CD.

Takes about 15-20 minutes per CD. It plays the CD in normal sequence, but records in the background at a much faster rate. A screen pops up on display to say recording done. Also, if instrument panel display is set to audio, it will show recording progress.
BTW, you cannot just turn on the electical power and do it. Car automatically shuts down after about 5-10 minutes, but apparently you can leave electical power on once you have started the car. Wierd.
Best way is to take a trip and have a passenger do it. You can select which folder to record into, enter titles for folders, etc. Lots of opportunities to be distracted and run into somebody.

I burned a few CD's but also gave us due to the speed, or lack thereof. Now I alternate between the 16Gb USB stick I keep in the glove-box or streaming music or Pandora from my iPhone.
