As i said, i stopped buying CR years ago. I would have no idea how they rate the new A6. Do they have a review on the new 4.6L in my 550, or are they basing their 2012 Buyer's Guide info on the old 5.5L? That was another reason i stopped buying CR...they never had the newest engines/models in their current buyer's guide.
Do they help consumers to make educated decisions? Yes.
Do they tell the whole story? No.
Are they biased towards Japanese brands? Yes.
Would I buy a new Mercedes-Benz, even if CR gave it a failing grade? Yes.
There are better sources for info when looking at new luxury cars, IMO.
