Command upgrade???
I'm in the market for a 2010 vs 2011 e350. I've read about the upgraded command system in the 2011. I understand that there are some hardware and software differences. My questions are...
1) Can the 2010 command be upgraded to the current version?
2) Can the 2010 do ad2p bluetooth music streaming?
3) Are there any features present in the 2011 command system that make it worth getting vs the 2010?
4) Is the command version in the 2010 4 and the 2011/2012 4.5?

2010 and 2011 can be upgraded to the same level if they are the 4.x version. Late in 2011, MB started installing a 4.5 version, which continues into the 2012. The pre-4.5 has slightly different hardware and connote be upgraded to the 4.5 version, at least that is what my disservice dept. says. I enjoy the functionality of my early 2011 Bluetec 4.x system with the monochrome IP display. The Comand Online and the newer color display is very nice, but, would not be a reason I would consider upgrading.

There are a few things that you can add cheaply. $35 buys you a Blackberry Music Gateway on eBay that gives you streaming music from any BT phone (not only Blackberry) and works extremely well. The only other thing that 4.5 brought was a color display in your cluster and Sirius weather - you need to decide how important that is for you.

I have a 2010 E-Class and I am able to stream music to the head unit from my iPhone without any issues. Sounds really good, better then Sirius actually. Not sure which version of the software I have but I did ask them to upgrade me about a year ago when someone on this board got the latest version of the software. One of the features was that the temperature and AC status shows on the head unit screen when you change the temperature (S-Class style). If you want I can try to find the software version from an invoice.

comand 4.5 added a couple of navigation alternatives......find zip code and find intersection.
Additionally, it has the capability (turned off in the US) of connecting to the internet through your cellphone, however this is only active when the car is stopped. Note: it will not work with an iphone because Mercedes implemented one bluetooth profile and the iphone uses a different one (welcome to the world of non standard standards). Mercedes says that they will introduce internet into the 2013 cars (when they have implemented the iphone standard)....until then, their official position is that comand 4.5 does not support internet connectivity (even though some have it working on their cars.....)

Had my 2010 upgraded and it added streaming bluetooth and an improved navigation interface. For example, the traffic display has smaller symbols now i stead of large ones. Still doesnt show hvac info on the screen although not an issue for me.

when you start the car, look at the screen in the middle of the dash. If there is a globe on the far right that takes you to Sirius weather, you have comand 4.5.

How did you get them to upgrade it? Did you have to pay for it? Also as a slight tangent, can you stream videos or pictures to the display in any of the command versions? I believe that you can load pictures into the 4.5 version with the sd card slot, but streaming would be nice.
