Mercedes Saved My Life
Well, I might be joining the W212 series sooner than I thought. My W211 was totaled last night in a wreck. Mercedes just earned a customer for life because there is no way my gf and I should have walked away from this wreck. Pictures coming tomorrow...
Stay safe everyone and remember to look both ways when going through an intersection. I was drilled by a Suburban on the driver's side at 40mph and it took the FD an hour to cut me out. 16yo kid blew a red and never even hit his brakes.

Can't seem to find the article since it was a few years ago...
A teenager in a Mercedes CLK split an Acura TL in HALF by running a red light and T-boning it at around 50-60 mph. The forward portion of the car, carrying a young korean couple, spun into a utility pole killing them instantly. the rear portion was demolished and strewn across several lanes. It was later reported that the teenager was high on marijuana and the car was stolen from a family friend (iirc it wasn't his parents' car).
Consider yourself very lucky, Especially considering the impact was from a MUCH larger vehicle. Be very thorough in making sure you have no injuries. The hoodline of a Chevy Suburban sits roughly at the same level as your face when you're in a passenger car. Make sure you get your head checked out very very thoroughly.

Damn! Glad you guys are okay man! Wow, that's amazing (not the crash, but that you're all okay).
Glad to hear the W211 did it's job. Interested to see how the car took it via pics.

Thanks everyone. Pics definitely coming tomorrow! I am in good spirits because I'm just so thankful to have the ability to walk away from this experience. I really wish I had the opportunity to shake an engineer's hand at Mercedes. Their safety standards are ridiculously high.

No, we did. Were both admitted to the hospital and released with some bad bruising, scrapes and neck pain. Nothing really to be concerned about however. I know for a fact, if I were in a honda civic or similar I may not be walking or dead.

Glad you both survived.
Don't wait too long to see your Doc if the neck pain continues. I still have problems from hitting a deer at 75 in my Nissan 200SX 30 years ago.

i can see hundreds of different dr's appts are coming . like what cavu said, go see dr/specialist right away if you guys feel anything wrong. i know chiro, rehabs, therapists and whatnot are pita but health is the most important. btw, try acupuncture as well. i feel like that is better than any other specialists. take care, buddy !

Holy sh**, I missed the whole part about the FD having to cut you out, and taking an hour to do so.
I couldn't even imagine. CONGRATS!! Take this as a positive, these things can and should be life changers (for the better) if you're fortunate enough to make it alive.

My sister swears by Merc. About 5 years ago, she was the rear passenger in a C Coupe (The one with the glass roof). They basically had the PIT maneuver performed on on them by a drunk driver in a huge SUV on westbound I80 in Davis CA. They flipped multiple times, and the driver of the SUV was killed. My sister had to be cut out with the "jaws of life".
Needless to say, I am buying a W212 for my wife and children to ride in.
I am glad that your loved ones made it out safe. Props to Daimler AG!

It's a huge testament to Mercedes safety when your E550 gets totaled from being t-boned by a Suburban, the fire department having to take an hour to cut you out, and here you are a day later alive and well, able to post about it on the internet.
The W211 was consistently rated the safest car in its class during its time, and nearer to its debut was actually called the safest car in the world by several safety institutes/agencies.

Wow glad to hear you are relatively OK after such a collision. Hope your gf and you recover fully without too much struggle.
Especially with a child now I am glad we are in 2 MBs rather than giving into the temptation of saving some bucks on lesser vehicles...

Good to hear both of you are well and alive...makes me feel more secure driving my family around...my wife has an A4 and she's lax on wearing her seatbelt sometimes. I tell her these German cars are designed for Autoban type wrecks at high speeds, the caveat is you have to wear your seat belt...

Glad to hear that you and the girlfriend are okay. I swear by Mercedes safty as I was in a high speed accident on the highway a few years ago. I was the only one that stayed on the road while the two other cars ended up in the ditch. Every one was okay but my car kept me on the road. Drive safely and good luck!

Other than 3-point seat belts, just about every safety feature on today's cars was developed by Mercedes. They have allowed the competition to use those features without having to pay for it.
Now we have GM advertising the brake drying feature as if they invented it. It isn't the first time they've done this.

Imagine if M-B patented ALL of their Safety innovations, as they indeed have literally invented ALL of the Safety features, from the core basics to the modern tech, that we see today. They'd be making some major dough.

I suppose you could argue that Mercedes are responsible for preventing an untold number of injuries and deaths.
