I think the only interior color that can pull off alum trim is black..wait and red, In a E class that is

My E350C has pretensions of being sporty, but no aluminum as a substitute for wood for me in this car except for the tiny accent pieces, for all the reasons stated above by others.
Yes, maybe with an all black interior - for some - but not for me either.

What I find especially disgusting is how some manufacturers think just because you want the "sport" version with better suspension and a more powerful engine it means you also lack any taste whatsoever and try to push aluminium trim on you. If anything they should upgrade the wood and leather!
I hope this aluminum and carbon fiber insanity comes to an end soon as far as interior trim is concerned. I am sick of seeing cheap and tacky looking aluminum trim in luxury car interiors.
Sorry, this thread touched a nerve

I am not a carbon fibre hater, but i don't think aluminum trim belongs in a Mercedes-Benz. A lot of times, the wood trim is the finishing touch on a MB that makes me drool.
I think CF has a place in an AMG, but i also think the price tag that comes with it is ridiculous.

As others have said, I just can't see a Benz without wood.
Not at all the original color combo I was going to order in a 2011 model, before discovering that the red leather/black ash combo was coming to the U.S. for 2012, along with the new D.I. engines and updated trans.
I guess patience does have its rewards sometimes.

sorry for reviving an old thread, but my 2012 e350 here in socal has the aluminum trim. Im a little surprised at the negative reaction towards it on here. I personally love the way it matches my three spoke steering wheel and the trim around the odometer. Im actually a big fan of the darker colored wood too but being in my mid 20s i felt like the aluminum suited me better for now.

I wish more dealers would spec cars with it, especially on cars with black or black on tone (including designo)
interior color schemes. If more people seen it, I'm sure they would like it too.

the aluminum trim on my 2012 looks nothing like that, mine has more of a brushed aluminum look,
edit, noticed this is h79, mine is h76

Personally if given a choice, I'd go with the brushed look. But the patterned aluminum is OK, still would take it over the burl walnut or brown ash in this black sport interior.

I like the brushed look too. I have yet to see a car with this trim in person. I wonder if it has better scratch resistance than the finish on MB wood, which seems to get fine marks even if barely touched.

scratches that go with the grain of the brush are invisible, but even perpendicular scratches are only seen if youre really looking for them.

I notice fine marks on the wood finish, especially at certain angles in bright light. Like swirl marks on dark paint. I can usually cure it with a little wax.

The aluminum trim looks awful in any MB! Even a C Class! Carbon fiber sure go for it! Silver trim.. No. Keep it on the 3 series.

lol, mercedes drivers are typically from the older crowd so i can totally understand the desire for wood trim, but carbon fiber? I would drive a car with carbon fiber unless it had at least 500 hp, definitely not in a 300 hp sedan.

Agreed, that's why I went with black trim

Not all of us. I love the matte wood interior in my friend's Jaguar. I wish/hope it is an option soon. Where I live, I have yet to come across it an a German vehicle. Hopefully they will rethink offering it to the American market.

stale-bread, what do you think about the new Brown Satin Ash wood that's now available for the 2014 E's? In comparison to the Burl, there is almost no gloss at all.
