I was reading through the COMAND manual to research about the AUX in jack (i wanted to watch videos on my iPod through COMAND - if anyone knows how to do it, please let me know as I still haven't figured it out! )

Anyways, I found this text (in the section about the rearview camera):

If a side view camera is available, using COMAND you can switch from the rear view camera picture to the side view camera picture, see the "System settings" section.

Weird...Does anyone know anything about a side view camera? The manual I used was the one on mbusa.com

I also noticed through my reading that there is no 12V power outlet in the glovebox on my car...does anyone notice the same thing on their E?

We do iPod video almost every day. Very easy with our kits.

ROW cars do have a side view camera available, but we have never seen one yet in NA. The 12V glove box outlet is in many Mercedes, but not in others. There is a build code for it, and it can be easily added if necessary.

 

Noobie question but side view as in literally next to your car when parking or side view as in the front of your car so you can see around corners with the nose out when something is obstructing your view? Volvo has the latter which seems pretty cool...

 

Side view in MB speak is for blind spot management.

 

I think it's same system as newer Range Rovers do , you can also split the screen for different angle views ,sounds wicked lol

 

BMW has this on their upper end cars (7 series, X5, X6, etc.). It's a great feature especially if you live in the crowded city with blind alleys and tight parking spaces.

 

That would be cool...side mirror cameras.

 

I think I remember reading something about Nissan having a 360 degree view on some models. I have wondered how that works.

 

There is a 12V outlet in the glove box of my 2011 E550 Luxury P2.

It's VERY had to see, in the far upper right corner.

I keep a stubby rechargeable LED flashlight in mine.

I also have the optional 115V rear outlet, but that's a separate feature, build U80.

 

how do i get a side cam?

 

Mine has one...upper right hand corner IIRC.I have P1...that may or may not be the difference (if it's possible to find one without P1/2).

 

True.I think it's also available in the 5 Series too.I'd *love* to have side view if possible.

 

Listerone, is your media interface in the glovebox or center console? Mine is in the center console. I feel that when MB changed the media interface from the glovebox to the center console, they deleted the AUX port in the upper right hand corner of the glovebox...

 

I think AUX depends on what package and options you get

518 Media Interface includes (at optional )

AUX in center console

510 standard includes : (non Comand)

14.7 cm screen
Aux in the glove box
6 CD Changer , MP3 supported
Bluetooth

So, if you choose Comand as I do , this will cancel 510 but keep 518

I had a infiniti with the all around view camera. I would say it is the best set up made. It is a shame MB doesn't offer that as a option. Infiniti has it standard with the nav and parking sensor. It is one option I miss.
