Click/Tick Noise in Driver's Seat

Did a search and unfortunately didn't find anyone with this issue. 2012 E350 2200 miles- I can hear a very light sound of a click/tick from somewhere inside of the driver's seat. Seems to be worse when going over undulating roads or decel. doesn't do it over bumps per se, just when road is uneven. When the radio is off or I am on the BT phone, I can hear it extremely frequently. Dealer says they cannot hear it.

Does anyone have a similar issue, or there any TSB on it? Any help would be appreciated, this is the only thing that I don't love about this car.

I would just keep taking it back to dealer until they hear it and fix it. If something is loose inside the seat (clip, nut, bracket, etc. etc.) it's going to keep doing it until it is fixed.

If you have not already done so request the shop foreman ride along on a test drive to identify/confirm noise(s) heard.

Does this happen when the seat is lowered to the absolute lowest setting? Do you have the ventilated seats? (I've heard the fans under the seat don't last very long, they look like 80mm fans used for a personal computer case and "knock" or "tick" when they start to wear.

I've never heard of it. Wish you a luck. I am really enjoying the BlueTec.

See if its your passenger side seatbelt assembly next to the console. Mine ticks when I don't have a passenger in the car. Kinda vibrates at speed and over bumps, but its a ticking sound.

that reminds me of my last bmw. i simply put couple small pieces of velcro on and that solved the problem.

I had something just like this happen on my 2010 E350. Turns out a tic tac that I had dropped found its way into the air duct/vent that was directly under the seat. Luckily I was able to retreive it on my own. So get a flashligt and check that plastic vent!

I don't know about you guys, but I get this WHACK/CRACK sound sometimes from my center arm rest console......it happened again last night, and I cannot figure out what is could be!!!!!!! it's insane......it's like a piece of metal is being flung into a wall, but inside my storage spot.......then I open it and of course there's nothing!!!
it's very strange and wiggs me out everytime I hear it!!!

Do you have the drive dynamic multicontour driver's seat? In my E550, when the thigh support is extended outward, it can sometimes cause a creak.

Thanks for all the replies - I will check out the dynamic seat for whether the thigh support has anything to do with it. I can't even discern much adjustment travel in the seat either way when I operate the dynamic seat controls. I do have the seat all the way down and all the way back, but moving it up doesn't seem to help.

Do these seats have different springs inside than I may be used to? I have been able to ascertain that the noise is only when I am in the seat, placing my wife there, it doesn't do it. (and no, I am not going to just lose 50 pounds off my fat *** to solve the noise)

I did ride with the shop foreman, who said that his hearing wasn't very good, so he couldn't hear it. I ride with anyone else, they hear it. Seems to be coming from the underside of the seat, rather than the belts, checked those. Don't think there is anything caught in the vent down there, and I do not have the ventilated seats.

At this point I am pretty skeptical that they are going to be able to fix this. i will keep trying as I have time, but I just don't have the ability to hang out at the dealer all day demonstrating the noise. I really think I am compressing something and I am hearing a noise as it reaches its limit of travel in there. Big bumps don't cause it, just undulating/jiggling frequencies from certain roads.

Sounds like the noise is coming from the storage compartment under the seat. Sometimes, when I get in the car, the bin makes a click noise and a couple of creaks, but this is on my S class, which the dealer can no longer fix because it's outside of its warranty period. Good luck to you, though! MB obviously had problems with these bins because MB removed them from the face lifted S classes...wonder why they put them on the E?

Maybe they had a warehouse full of them and put them on the E models. They know those E customers will buy anything

If the SF was serious in his comment did you suggest having someone else ride along (i.e.: tech assigned to vehicle). Anyway, LI91.10-P-050161 released to address the storage compartment – check to see if it is locking properly the release handle should not feel as though it is stressed, a soft clicking noise can be hard when the lid locks fully.

I had the same issue - that noise is from the tiny fans in vent. seat. there are two where you sit and two in the back. I knew the noise is coming from them (it happens once the ventilation is on), so I had the seat dismantled, covers opened all the way till I reached the fans. turned out one of them is lose. they have a plastic base, which they hang from with a rubber band almost "afloat". the fan was disconnected some how from its rubber and was just moving around, the blades hitting the sides when squashed by sitting on it. got rubber tied properly, everything back into place, noise gone! you will need to connect to MB computer to eliminate fault message that will appear from disconnecting the seat thou. now I regret not replacing the whole fan - current one apparently has different sound, maybe from hitting around for a while. will probably go through that next weekend. hope that helped!

My C207 has the worst possible seats! I have the comfort leather seats and they squeak so bad! They have done from when the car was new. Not something you expect from a £50,000 car. ßMercedes haven't been able to fix the problem and now i am trying to do so myself. Can anyone help me with instruction on how to dismantle the seats please? I was gonna try and attempt to dismantle it but thought twice when i realised i may set off an airbag.

I had click/tick/pop noise from the driver seat before. Had the tech ride with me and confirmed the sound. The seat rail was replaced and issue was resolved.

Yeah i tried forever for mercedes to look into it but the customer service wasn't really there. I'm gonna try to dismantle the seat and grease the rails maybe..

How old is your e350 coupe? its actually built off the c coupe... and i have a c, and my seats were creaky and annoying... WD40 down the tracks, on the metal parts that are underneath the back of the seat and everything under there. Hell, even the little seatbelt dispenser goes "whooosh" now when i pull out my belt.

Naturally, given weight, the seats metal supports that move and contour us ever so nicely are given to gravities ways as well my friend. I hope that might help your situation. I want to do it in my E preemptively but im worried that i wont get the scent out .... ill wait till it squeaks =D

even my 300 dollar judges chair for my office has begun to creak a bit =D matteroffact... where is that wd40

lol hey thanks, i might just try that tip! My coupe is a 2010 and i do think it was built on the old clk as well. It gets very annoying hearing these silly squeaks, its been there from pretty much the beginning...i think they have a design flaw. I will definitely give the WD40 a try, I have also got some silicone grease ready for the job when i get the chance.

yeah people here say krytox 205 ftw, but the seat mechanism track of long and hard to manually apply anything to. Hence wd40, but it DOES have an odor.. and a heavy trigger finger will ensure it getting on your carpet...

and i dont know about the older clk, but for sure the new clk, e coupe, is based on the C coupe. not a shrunken E as it would seem.... so they are quite different in qwerks despite being labelled so similarly.

FYI - regular ole WD40 is a water displacer and a solvent. Spraying it on the tracks will only dissolve whatever lubricant is currently on them.

Try a silicon spray lubricant instead, or a spray lithium. WD40 brand make those too, as does other brands.

No worries, TB, lots and lots of people think regular WD40 is a lubricant. I used the stuff for years before I found out.

We're all here to help.
