I'm looking for a high quality flat black grill with a big star. Does anyone know where I can buy one? I'm a little leery of buying one off ebay because I dont want to risk one that will be of poor fit, finish, and quality. So any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got this from ebay by mistake....sent it back....its glossy black, but I think you can get it painted flat black...then slap on the emblem back on there.

I bought 2 off of ebay, one chrome with black, and one totally black even the star. They are fromm 55tech, fitment was just like stock and easy to replace. I still have the stock grill in chrome and a stock grill painted all black. I change between the 4 every couple months.

Also, THis is probably a stupid question but they say it is for a 2010. Mine is a 2012. It is the same though, correct?

That seller is located in China, I would try to get one from somewhere in the states. Both of mine came from west coast.

I bought aftermarket grills for my SL and Es on eBay from both "jacou" and "5th-gear" (I think they're selling identical product). IMO fit and finish is on par with OEM. I would not hesitate to buy "their" products again.

I know you wanted flat not gloss, but you can always ask him if he has it (I know he has it for W211, he may have it for W212 as well).

Try this one, even though the star is chrome, it comes seperate in the packaging. You could have someone local paint the star flat black.

THANKS! Maybe I'll paint it myself. It would be a neat project. But I might wait to see if anyone else knows of a supplier with a black star too. Thanks for the suggestion. That might be the way I go.

Just currious. Why flat black? Wouldn't gloss black be a better match to gloss Pano roof?

I think the gloss black will look to "chic" or elegant. I think the flat black will look more menacing. Also, I want to install a carbon fiber front spoiler under the sport bumper. So the flat black will contrast enough that it wont look like I was trying to match and was way off.



But I am open to hearing other opinions.

I agree, I went with the all gloss black one. I think it goes with the rest of the cars glossy points, Pano roof, side door pillars etc. Matte black is hard to take care of also, leaves white marks and hard to touch up.

I will. And if the flat black is a mistake, I can buy another in glossy. They are not nearly as expensive as I thought they'd be.

And I was thinking about it; Mercedes decided to go with the flat black diffuser in the rear and it doesn't look out of place to me. I'd love to have a cf one, but the flat black looks appealing enough to me.
