Here's just one sampling from this site...AliExpress Some advertise as carbon fiber, some as metal, some aluminum. On the shown sample, two seem to have inserts or sleeves in them. I have no idea what for. Sorry if I complicated things, and good luck.

PS: has anyone ever tried to cut carbon fiber? can you cut it?

^Thats the incorrect size pins. Mine was similar to that with metal base and covered with cf (may not be real cf but whos asking?) so yep, i was able to cut it. Its not neat but you cant see the uneveness as its on the bottom part of the pin So its hidden even when unlocked and the pin sits flush when locked
This is what you need..

This is what i bought by mistake so i just cut the other 2 pins shorter for the rear.

I'm sorry. I didn't realize that you had a pdf file already attached. Man, this is looking like the job is much more involved than I thought. It may be beyond my expertise level. My main worry is that I might end up screwing something else. I don't have any of the special tools required either. BTW up to what step do we proceed on the list before I can access the pin mechanism? I hope the pin heights will be appropriate with the open technique.
The superglue technique is looking better and better now .

^thats the same exact guide (pdf provided by konigstiger) i used when i did mine.
dont be intimidated by the pics.
i know i was, until i tried it and felt silly as it was as easy as unscrewing 2 screw. easier if you have the plastic panel remover but not necessary.
if you have the correct pins, 2 LONG SCREW IN pins for the front and 2 SHORT SNAP ON pins for the rear then the height should be perfect, locked or unlocked.
and to answer your question, you have to remove the rear door panel to get access to the mechanism. which is easier than changing your tyres or your light bulbs. unscrew 2 screw and pop the panel.
PS: dont be scared if you hear the plastic locks pop (loud pop) when you pull the panel off, theyre supposed to make that sound. i think theres 8 of them. its only tough for the first 2 or 3 but it gets easier to pull the whole panel after that.

I didn't remove the door panels for the rear amg pins. I used a plier to gently pull up on the oem plastic ones and they popped off
Then at jpmbenz' advice I used locktite on the amg pins and then installed them by popping them back in--- solid
I do NOT like how they are flush to the door and the rear door handle mechanism doesn't automatically pop the lock as the mechanism exists in the front and basically on all modern cars, lol

I didnt remove the panel the first time, i just put glue and pushed it in. but since i bought the wrong pins for the rear and it was longer. i pushed it in so it would have the same height as the front when locked/unlocked, and in the process, i un-clipped the 2 side clips the holds the stalk up. (see konigstiger's 3rd photo from post #45) so i had to fix it and do it the right way which wasnt hard at all.
"I do NOT like how they are flush to the door and the rear door handle mechanism doesn't automatically pop the lock"
mine did the same thing initially when i just glued the damn thing in. but (i need to double check later when i get home as i didnt drive the 212 today) the rear door lock pops up when somebody opens the door from the inside after i fixed it. meaning removed the panel, clipped the 2 side clips back in and snapped the pins properly.
@pamiboy: mate you can do as Peter suggest and just glue it, easy and simple, but if you unclip the side clips whilst pushing it down like i did, just remove the panel which is easy to do as well.

Check when you get a chance to see if the door locks pop on the rear with toggling the handle
The didn't do this before or after the install, others have commented on this lack of important mechanism as well... Lemme know I appreciate it

Peter you're right. The rear door locks would not pop at all even after toggling the handle if the central locking is on. This is stock. The only way to open a centrally locked rear door is to pull the pin. All the more reason why the pin height should be correct.
Guys. I'll do the proper install this weekend. Thanks for the encouraging words.

@pami, the stock pins will be have different lengths to begin with, longer front and shorter rear. youll see when you pull them. so theyre both almost flush when locked and the same height when unlocked.
if youre replacing them with pins that have the same length (im assuming you bought pins with the same length all around?), the rear would be much longer when unlocked and will be sticking out whilst the front is sitting flush when locked. thats exactly what happened to me and it just dont seem right when im looking at it so i had to cut it.

Wait, are you saying that after the install with OEM AMG pins, all the pins will be sitting flush when locked? So it will be useless as an unlocking pin....correct? Man, I got to think about that then.

now these OEM AMG pins that you got? are they all the same length?
if you want the pins to stick out after the door is locked, then long pins should be perfect for you. the fronts you can adjust since theyre screw in and the rear will be sticking out anyway.

So that's different from my car. What year is it? Is there any setting we can change to adjust it? May be its the child lock. I'll check again. Thanks.

not sure if it has anything to do with settings. its 2010 and childlock is not engaged if that matters. but yeah, all pins pop up as soon as either back door is opened from the inside, just like when you open from the inside of the driver or front passenger side.

I think non USA e-class will pop rear locks with handle toggle
USA e-class will not
Also, where do I get the long rear door pins?(amg)

I will keep the steel pins in the front anyway since the stock plastic ones appear to be slightly damaged from the twisting.
Yes it'll look a bit weird with the steel pins in front and plastic ones in back, but I'll try not to look towards the rear doors .
I should have listened to my service manager initially when he said that these products do not fit the car properly.
Thanks guys...for all the help.

Great thread, agree with all the pluses and minuses discussed above. However, the stock pins are unacceptable -- almost all of us agree on that. Like in my C55, I replaced these with the machined stainless steel pins I found on ebay, previously found at formymercedes.com. The ones I got from Ebay are made/machined in Japan, look and work great: [url="http://www.ebay.com/itm/121780027154?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageNa me=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT"]
But, when installed and locked they sit flush with the door. I like this look and also find that without the child lock engaged and the door locked, one cannot exit the rear door by pulling the interior handle. I would have to pull the pin or unlock from the front. This works well with our mischievous 4 year old.
I used Peter's method of gently pulling the stock rear pins up and off and gluing the replacement pins in. Total installation took less than 10 minutes.

I believe the pins for the S212 are a staggered set and would like to order the appropriate parts which would make the pins sit flush with the door card when locked.
Does anyone on here have the P/N for the OEM AMG door pins?
