When you get a new car chances are that the mirror does not tilt with reverse gear on even if the selector switch is set to passenger side. This is because the mirror has not been set to the tilt position yet as from the factory it probably is not.

I had this with my 2011 E350 as I got it as a new car. I had to first set the mirror position for the tilt. This was simply done by having the reverse gear on and adjusting the passenger side mirror to position I wanted and leave the selector switch on passenger side.

To disable the tilt just press driver side selection and it will not tilt until you select passenger side again.

Well...hell yes you did. My bad, should have read the whole post. Stopped reading as it talks about the convex mirrors at the beginning of it.

Would be nice to have those mirrors though.

My 2011 E550 passenger side mirror tilts (down) when in reverse. As another poster said, if your mirror adjustment selection button is on the passenger side, then it will tilt when in reverse. If you keep the button set to the driver's side, then it won't.
My 2005 E500 did the same thing.
