Thanks to the great people on this board I was finally able to fix my E/S Switch tonight with my own set of tools (the MB ones are ridiculously expensive for what turns out to be an upholstery tool and a couple of nylon spudgers, both of which I had). The switch was sticky and someone had obviously spilled coffee or soda, nothing about 10 cotton swabs and some isopropyl alcohol couldn't rectify. The switch obviously hadn't been "cleaned" like the dealer claimed and then proceeded to quote me that a) they couldn't fix it under warranty because it was malfunctioning due to "outside influence" and b) it would be $200 dollars to fix. Utterly preposterous...and thankfully, i'm quite the handy person. Works like a charm now!

Thanks to everyone, especially konigster who got me the instructions, I am in your debt sir!!

IT IS OK!!!

.
it is not OK on my 2004 SL500! If the car starts to roll and it downshifts into S it try’s to rip the motor mounts out as it breaks the tires loose.

I enjoy the ability to go 80mph in reverse in C/E but it is too much shock to the drivetrain when I slam it into drive to complete a bootleg turn.
