New Mileage

Finally took the baby on a road trip over the weekend to Boston and Back. I know the engine was rejoicing as it actually got to go above 30 mph (my wife typically drives like an old lady).
Like a young stallion it needs to run to feel good and get all those juices flowing and believe me we were both in our glory on the road today.

I averaged around 70 mph and recorded an average 26 mpg , a bit below what the sticker and most postings on here say.
My question to you fellow 212ers is... Do you think my mpg will improve as the engine wears in or is this just a myth?
My driving style is pretty consistent. I do drive fast but don't accelerate or decrease speed rapidly. In other words I am not wasting any gas. I drive like a gentleman, just a little on the fast side. Your input is welcome and much appreciated. Thanks

At 5,000 miles total, did a 3,000 mile trip last May, mostly 70 mph+, mixed flat with some grades. Measured mileage at the pump, got 28+ mpg.
Now at 19,000 miles, just started an identical trip, same weather, same route. It looks like I'm getting 29+ mpg at the half way point. So, ~maybe~ break-in yields slightly better milleage.
I attribute the decent mileage to the fact that the V8 simply loafs along at 1500 RPM on the road, almost ignoring grades.
(Always measure mileage at the pump --- never from the computer.)

480 miles, 6:53 hours, average speed 70 mph, 25.9 mpg.
This is what the car displayed but I always calculate from the actual fuel I put in the car. That revealed 24.9 mpg.
Not bad for a V8 at 70 mph speed.
I have 25 000 miles on it.
Just to everyone to know you cannot trust the car computer fuel mileage. It can be way off and it is more off in city driving. 28 - 29 mpg values come down to 26-27 mpg when you calculate from actual mileage and fuel you fill in.
