RAIN-X windshield fluid?

2011 E550 Luxury. Ever since it was purchased 18,000 miles ago, the wipers have squeaked badly at the left end of the wipe, streaked, and never did clean well. They were replaced by the dealer (free) at 10,000 miles. No improvement.

I've been using generic washer fluids picked up at "Louie's Tennis Racket Stringing, Tantic Massage, And Auto Parts."

The other day, I filled it with Rain-X windshield washer fluid. WOW!! Rain beads up, really beads up and rolls up off the top of the windshield, bugs go, the same old wipers clean perfectly and, most of all, silently.

Has this been your experience? Any downside to this product???

have never used Rain X washer fluid but I do faithfully use Rain X on the windshield and all of the windows. I rarely buy fluid as my independent shop fills my resivor at every oil filter change and when ever I need it filled. Not sure if there are any downsides to using the product. I will say that I have never experienced the issue you noted with your wipers. I have an 09 ML350 and also had an 06 ML350 neither of which had wiper issues as you describe.

RainX washer fluid, RainX wipers, RainX glass treatment (I use them all)...HECK, now that I think of it, I just recently bought some RainX car wash for our new E!!! lol (Although, I do normally prefer Meguiar's). RainX really keeps the water off while driving during inclement weather conditions. Case in point, it's been raining in the area for the last couple days and today the sun came out all day... Our E is black and it still looked clean a day after the rain! And you know how black cars can be "dirt-magnets"! Plus pollen felt pretty stifling today... Anyway, I was really impressed w/ how clean the car still looked... RAINX (even if only for treating the glass) really scores high in my book!

Started using rain x fluid 2 yrs ago...terrific beading allowing the wipers to lay idle in moderate rain. Im also using the 24 " rain x beam blades....very happy with their performance too. Quiet and thorough. Now I have 3 items I dont let the Indy change...blades..wiper fluid and air filters.

I've tried all types of water repellent solutions and rain-x does work well.

Downsides is when you switch formulation from winter to summer or vice versa. Summer is green while winter is orange. If you happen to mix the two, it is one ugly color, but hey you can always empty the fluid before changing. it may not have the most powerful cleaning ability either, but probably better than the generic stuff?

Rain-X is a fine product BUT I haven't used it because, right on the front label it says, "contains deionized water". Somewhere in the owners manual it states not to use deionized or demineralized water as it will damage the built in sensor.

Up till now I've used tap water with the MB additive sold at the dealership (summerfit/winterfit).

Based upon the comments made above by other posters, I think I will switch to Rain-X.

Rain-X and similar products ofter confuse rain sensing wipers. The system works by light reflecting off rain drops and setting the speed accordingly.

My BMW hated rain-X as the wipers would take forever to turn on and then would go into overdrive.

I use the Rain-X on the glass once or twice a year. Excellent. I don't notice anything weird with the auto-wipers.

Never tried the windshield fluid though.

Have been using Rainex since it came out a few years ago. It works great plus this is the only product that I use when I clean the windshield. Also use it on the outside of all windows a few times a year. Just buy orange color year round. Easy choice. Have had no problems on several MB 's that I have owned.
