disadvantages in 4 matic

CLS550 OEM widths are 255/285. The difference is not "the same", but a bit over 1/10" (for most tire manufacturers) so this setup can easialy be used on 4matics. If I recall correctly, a 3% speedo difference is built into tolerance to reflect potential difference of front/rear tire wear - that's about 1.5/10", which is about the difference between 255/40-18 and 285/35-18, hence their use on 4matics as OEM.

False. 4matic cars can use staggered wheel/tire setups, provided front and rear tire diameters are the same or close (ideally within 1/10"). OEM sizes for E350/E550 sport - 245/40-18 (25.7") and 265/35-18 (25.3") - can not be used on 4matics, but if one changes rear tires to 275/35-18 (almost 25.6") or both front to 255/40-18 (26.0") and rear to 285/35-18 (almost 25.9") - this is CSL550 4matic OEM setup - then 4matics will be perfectly happy with those.
BTW Audis, except Lambo based R8, all use non-staggered OEM setups.

Yes, and now we are splitting hairs.
I am perfectly aware that tire setup that gives the same tire diameters in front and back will work but the one MB has selected for these cars cannot be used.
Also, go put a set of those that you mention under the 4Matic E and then when the 4Matic center differential fails go ask MB to cover it under warranty. Good luck!

Maybe only in New Mexico... This "fraud", as you put it, is commited in the rest of the country all the time regardless of product, brand and industry. In the real world its called "getting around it". It is perfected in Washington D.C. on daily basis. Its way off topic, so do not even go there

Are you serious?
On my formal E500, an MB dealer charged me over $3K to replace transmission, radiator and more after warranty expired. That "repair" was due to faulty supllied radiators installed in many early W211, W203 and some others (W211 board is filled with those effected). MBUSA knew about the problem. They also knew that those supllied radiators fail (by far) only after warranty expired. No recall. No extended warranty on effected parts (similarly what they've done with SBC brakes). So please, do not appeal to my conscience.

There is no negative side, unless you want to drift. I run staggered on my c class (comes stock staggered even on 4 matic) and on my e wagon. 8.5 front and 10" rear. No issues whatsoever

IN SUMMARY
o When you buy a 4-matic, you wish you had staggered wheels.
o When you wish you had staggered wheels, you put them on even though you're not supposed to.
o When you put staggered wheels on that you're not supposed to, you ruin your transmission.
o When you ruin your transmission due to using staggered wheels that you're not supposed to be using, you replace them with the originals and take car to the dealer to fix under warrantee.
o When you take car to dealer to fix under warrantee even though you caused the damage with staggered wheels, you commit fraud.
o When you commit fraud, you feel guilty and have difficulty sleeping at night.
o Don't commit fraud, feel guilty and have difficulty at night.
o Get a RWD to begin with!
