Night Vision Retrofit?

Hello everyone just picked up a 2010 W212 4MATIC Sport. It did not have Night Vision installed. Anyone look into the parts to retrofit this option?

Windshield (possibly/probably), and cameras, and ...etc?
Hopefully it does not require an updated COMAND System

Thanks

I'm no expert but it's hard to imagine that not running into serious $$$...if it's possible at all.

Well I would like to look into it. Seems it requires 2 Infrared cameras, special windshield option, and a few other components. I want to try to find out what it takes in parts and if there is a retrofit document for it.

Believe in me updating COMAND is piece of cake compared to retrofitting a night vision .

LOL!, Yeah updating COMAND is not that bad. Actually, I was talking about the cost to replace an entire COMAND unit. I retrofitted NAV on my 2008 C300. I selected a poor choice of words.

I will get the retrofit doc and review it and see what it really takes.

Hopefully, beyond the potential windshield replacement, installing the rest of the components won't be that bad.

Try these guys - they're in Germany but ship internationally:
http://www.navisworld.com/produkte-t...-assistent.php
Use Google Translate if necessary.
I emailed them about retrofitting Parktronic and it was about 1000 euros ($1200). Haven't decided whether or not to do that yet since it requires running a cable and my installer wants to charge an insane amount of money to do the install...

Agreed. For the money the OP is sinking into this, I'd happily let him have mine if it were easy to remove.

Why not just install it yourself?

That seems to be the general consensus amongst those who bought it when they purchased their car.

Got-em out here too, they also seem to know where the hunters aren't LOL!

However, the way the states ask the shops to adjust the headlights out here (mid-atlantic) seems to be too low for me, does not take full example of the full headlight beam. My 2008 C-class headlamps had a lot farther throw to them.

What lighting do you Have?

My Bi-Xenons are like the sun comes out when I put them on high beam. Even the low beams are better than high beams in any of my previous cars.

What comes to the night vision. From some earlier post I understand that it uses the Comand screen in the middle of the dash. If this is true the system is useless. You cannot possibly be looking at it while driving especially in the dark.

I had a S350 renter in Germany once with the night vision and in that car the screen for it is right in front of you as the speedo is a digital image, i.e. it changes to night vision screen when NV is in use and puts speed, engine speed etc. at the bottom of the screen as a number display. With this setup it can be used as you can take a quick look at it without turning your head.

If the retrofit involves replacing the cluster to get the image in front of you this retro will cost both arms and both legs. The cluster for my E550 costs over $7000 and it does not even have the screen built into it.

But the night vision will show deer etc. on the road far earlier than you can see them without it especially in rain.

Really. Last I knew, all of the systems were optimized for pedestrians and it is merely a fluke if they happen to detect a deer - unless it is standing dead center in the road. In most cases, the deer are crossing the road and are off the roadway until shortly before you tit them. That is outside of the scope of night vision.

Bi-Xenons, but they adjusted them to shine lower than I think they should be out here. If in certain situations then I put the Hi beams on, then I get a lot more light and it one can see a long way down the road. It is not a matter of how bright the low beams are, it is how they are mandated by the state to be pointed.

When I have my low beams on the automatic control they adjust to very far distance if nobody is driving too closeahead of me. If I don't have the automatic sdjustment ON they stay at the shortest distance.
