Cost of fuel filter and change interval?
Note mine is a diesel, not sure if that's different from the gas.
Dealer says at 30,000 miles it needs replacing, they want about $300 parts and labor.
I know this isn't a VW, but that sounds like a $$$$$.
I searched and didn't find.

The maintenence schedule which I just got from my dealer (and which is right next to me now) says 40K miles for the 2011 E Class OM642 and 150K for gas models. The owner's manual I got says 20K but the dealer says that's been revised.Curiously,BMW revised upward, after I bought my "d",the recommendation for fuel filter changes for that engine as well.Perhaps manufacturers think that diesel fuel here is less impure than they once thought.

There was a recall on that fuel filter so I would definitely double check whether it was done on yours. The dealer would replace it under warranty. I got it done on mine at 22k miles and no cost.

There was a recall on that fuel filter (diesel cars only) with something to do with its clamps. I would check to make sure that you car had the been fixed. I got a brand new fuel filter + installation at no cost at 22k miles due to this recall.

Just got this email from the service advisor:
Good morning, the recall is not “open” for your vin # . The service interval for the fuel filter has been changed to 40,000 miles. What has me baffled is that the GL diesel with the same engine and filters is still 20,000 miles – makes no sense. You can choose to wait until 40,000 miles.

You can buy the filter online for about $50 dollars. I change the one on my 06 E320 CDI which is a little different but basically the same at 26K intervals as per the maintenance booklet. It is not rocket science to change. $300 parts and labor is ridiculous for replacing the filter.

I'm far from being an expert with PC's and,as a result,I don't know how I'd do that. But trust me...I saw them print out the schedule they gave me and it does say 40K.And,as I said, the service guy said that that figure had been revised. When adding my experience with my BMW diesel (as noted above) the only two conclusions I can reach are 1) both Mercedes and BMW grew tired of changing them as often as they once did or 2) both companies have concluded that diesel fuel sold here isn't as impure as it once was...or,at least,as they once perceived it to be.

Interesting news. On my 2009 pre-paid plan had it done at 20 and 40k. 2012 I did not prepay so I am hoping it goes to 40k ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Somehow $300 doesn't sound too bad to me somehow though? Seems a lot more complex to change these filters than the old 80s diesels...
