In recent years it has become a trend for automakers to make similarly styled vehicles but with different size dimensions. Evident in almost all car companies not just luxury makers; Jetta-passat, altima-maxima, g37-m37, ES-GS-LS and so on.

I believe its an effort to give a face to the brand.

I agree with you. I see non-enthusiasts already have trouble telling the C and E apart. This 'problem' will continue to get worse if M-B brings them even closer together stylistically.

Well, I think things will get worse in your point of view considering facelift W212s will be switching to composite lights and you know it is only model that has quad lights , in a sense it will be loosing a distinctive feature .
For my part, I have no problem with people can not figure out differences between W204 and W212 lol

Back to BMW and AUDI interiors . I really don't tell difference among bimmer models from 1 to 7 lol

Present 3 Series has a 3/4 wood, aluminum or whatever you choose trim whereas F10 5 Series across the dashboard , oh yes what a difference . This is the only thing I could discern which is which if I ever sit in these ultimate driving machines
Seriously, main cockpit controllers look alike and same boring design

buddy, i hope you are kidding. if you can't tell the different between a 1 and a 7, either your eyes or your glasses have some serious problems .

I was kinda exaggerating by adding 1 Series but interior wise but I don't picture what's difference between 5 and 7 interiors of the top off my head right now .
Prior BMW 7 Series which I drove had a distinctive feature and it was direct gear level perched at the steering column

Exterior wise , I confused F10 5 Series with shwb 7 Series but I don't think that's my fault . I later realized that car was 7 Series

i don't blame you on the 5 and 7, especially the shorter 740. you'll have a harder time to tell which is which .

We have a BMW 550XI GT, nothing but trouble, dealer can't fix properly and BMW's customer care department in North Jersey does not care.
Stay with MB.

The reason that the 5 GT would be unreliable is because it hates itself.

No offense to 5 GT drivers because you can rest assured the car apparently comes VERY through on being an engineering masterpiece of comfort, but I hate that it's even called a "5-Series", like a nice scar to the name.

The point is it is a piece of junk and the manufacturer does not want to take ownership of it's failure. Our ultimate driving machine isn't driving. As for looks it certainly isn't as good looking as my 05 6 Series Cabriolet was but I have since moved on to Porsche 911 S Cab.

i had my last bmw 17 years ago. an E36 328i with premium package. from the day i took it home, the on board computer gave me problems, until the day i sold it, problem was still there. "check coolant level" message kept on popping up; at first the dealer didn't know what was wrong and was just resetting the computer to make the message go away. then they said it was the sensor and replaced the sensor several times. after 2-3 years i just decided to live with the message from then on. i had the car for 9 years, and the car greeted me with that message at least once every 1-2 weeks when i start the engine.

it was a great car and u know what i'm talking about for those who have had the pleasure enjoying the handling of BMW E36. but after selling it back in 2003, i never looked back on bmw. the coolant msg greeting was one reason. the other was the after service. i bought the car from ASSAEL BMW in southern california and had my car serviced there for 5 years. the service center there gave me attitudes include impatience and racial discriminitration. i even filed complaint to BMW NA and i think i got 2 calls from them afterwards and then nothing was done.

i think both MB and BMW are great. but between these two i just prefer benz now.

yeah, and the new 5 looks really boring and too much similar to the 7 and the new 3. Audi is another topic, and their car style just looks like the after products from constant orgy among family members.

regarding the 5 GT... i remember reading an article about a year ago when some representative of BMW Canada was interviewed and he was pretty much shocked at how poorly the GT did in terms of sales. As with most of the ppl here... I also find the GT so ugly like someone chopped off its rear end. And with its price point, no wonder it didnt achieve the sales BMW wanted.

well, porsche panamera also has similar curve line, but it's been a good hit with the public. 5GT's problem isn't the rear end, i think, it's more the price point you mentioned. perhaps it should just be named GT. adding 5 there links it to 5 series but in fact it's more like 7 (share the same chasis and all), price standpoint as well.

Speaking of GT made by BMW . They also decided to make GT3 . I think they will also make GT1 lol
BMW makes ugly cars aside from F10 and present gen 3 Series

Audi is a different story imo , A8 differs from herd and has an unmistakable interior compared to other Audi models
