Waiting to swap my Conti's out with Michelin tires one of these days. Looking at PILOT MXM4.

Hi, you may want to check out TireRack ratings. I believe the Mich PRIMACY
MXM4 rated much higher than the Pilot MXM4.
Might be owrth checking out before you buy.

Michelin simply makes the best high performance street and snows out there.

100% DISAGREE.

Hands down the best snow tires are made by NOKIAN.

They also make excellent high performance summer tires that I know beat Michelins in any driving condition.

conti pure contact thoughts

have my first 100 mile report on these tires, first the installer needed to use very little weights to get them in balance. great gripping when leaving turnpike to clover leaf. very quiet, no snow or rain yet. one question i have, do you recommend using the door sticker tire pressure, or should i use some other pressure number?

thank you

roger

Cool, can't wait to hear how they do in the snow...

Door sticker is for max allowable tire pressure, inside of fuel door sticker is for recommended tire pressure.

Now for the $10k question: How would you compare the new tires to the ContiPro's that you replaced when they were new?

I have Extreme Contact DWS on my Audi's, and love them. My E550 has the stock PZero's, and so far I'm happy with them too. We've had 4 days straight of lake effect snow this week and single digit temps here in Michigan and the PZero's have been very sure-footed. When it comes time to replace them I'm going to have a difficult choice!

Hmmmm yes.

Though, the Pilot has A LOT more reported miles. Since I'm looking to reduce road noise, Primacy definitely has a better rating.

I just picked up my E350 and it had goodyear I think RSA's on it. Dealer switched the goodyears with primacy mx4 and that tire seems to be a nice tire. I hve pilot sport a/s on my other car and I found that I lost some mpg's with them. They are great on dry and wet (they are a 235-45-18" size) and did well in some snow we had earlier but not near as good as the winter tires I put on. I read reviews about the loss of fuel economy but I get better fuel economy with the winter tires then I did with the pilot sport a/s, about 3 mpg difference.

Update on conti pure contact

i now have approx 2500 miles on the conti pure contact that replaced conti pro contacts at 26000 miles. i have nothing negative to say, ride and performance equal to the pro contacts, had a few inches of snow and tires worked perfectly. the big payback is if i can get at least 40k miles out of these 70k mile rated tire.

bought from tire rack and had local shop install.

that's good you like them, I'm currently using the stock conti's that came on my cls (on my cls) and they are noticably louder than the PS3's I had, and will have back on in a few weeks.....
I guess you're used to the road noise? and also the snow is much more up there obviously
enjoy

noise issue

the conti pro's at 26k were extremely noisy, as a matter of fact i never even thought of noise with the new conti pure contacts. they are very quiet but time will tell as the miles pile on.

I believe that Jures is talking about the new Conti-pure contacts. I am not sure about their noise performance, but they are supposed to be a bit more responsive, and better performing all around especially in wet conditions than the pro's, but not as firm as the Conti-extreme's.

Replacing ContiPros

I have to replace the OEM ContiPros on my 2011 E350 Sport Sedan. Mileage wasn't too bad, I got 30K. I'm now debating if I should stay with an all season touring tire or go with a performance tire. I live in Florida so snow is not an issue. If I drive North, I'll take my SUV. Overall, the tires weren't bad but they were a bit noisy on the highway. I'm looking for something that can offer similar, if not better performance, similar wear, and less noise. The conti-pures won't work. I have 265/35-18s in the rear. I've researched everything on tire rack and have come to the conclusion that my best bet is Pilot HX MXM4s (stick with all season) or Conti Extrem. DW (performance). Tire rack has a great deal on the DW. I'm not interested as much in the DWS due to possible road noise. Has anyone tried the Conti Extrem. DW? Any other recommendations?

Thanks,
Tim

They don't make the Pure Contact in that size or you don't like them? I have the staggered set up as well and just started researching replacements. I put the Pure Contacts on my wife's BMW and they are great but they have an aspect ratio of 50 so I don't know how they would feel/noise with 35 and 40 ratios.

The largest size they make is 245/40-18. These work for the front but 265/35-18 is not available for the rear. I've bought the MXM4s before so I know those meet my criteria. The Pilot Super Sports have good reviews but I think they may wear quickly.

Darn. Conti's are usually known for being a quiet rather than a 'sports' tire but several people have mentioned they didn't like the noise from the Pro's. Actually if you take any tire people have different views about noise and feel so it's hard to go by what anyone says.

I ordered conti ext. DW. Tire Rack has them on back order. I'll post a review after 5K. Paid $688 for all 4 so not a bad deal.

Just to let all know about the Firestone Wide Oval.

My car came with the Pirelli P zero Nero tires. Total junk in my opinion. Had a side wall puncture in front and had to replace. Went with Firestone Wide Oval tires. Noticed some better softness at that time. Tires also give better steering feel. Yesterday replaced the rear tires. Wide Oval does not come at 265/35-18 size.Went with 275/35-18. This is about 1% bigger tire in diameter so not bad for speed reading. Also installation was no issue on the 8.5" wide rim.

Immediately noticed this tire is much quieter than the P zeros. Also feels softer. Will see how they wear.

I had the Conti Extreme DW installed on Monday. So far they seem to be great tires--very quiet, soft ride. Good grip on dry surface (better than Contipros). It has been raining all week. I must say the tires handle great in rain. No hydroplaning. More updates when I put more miles on them.

Any updates now that miles are starting to accumulate? I am ~1500 miles away from replacing the P-Zero POS noise monsters on my 11 E550 RWD. Looking for recommendations / reviews.

I just got a set of Continentals extreme DWS and I have to say I am very impressed with their comfort and noise level. Totally recommends them and they are much better than the stock contipros (which suck btw). I have them in 19s

Having switched from factory installed Contis to Michelin Primacy HP , I have to say that I am very satisfied with the road noise level and riding comfort with the Michelins .
My tire sizes are : 245/45/17 ,don't remember load index lol
