Don't have an answer, but I think some small amount of slipping is normal due to start up charging needs, and the cold belt probably doesn't grip as well as a warm one.

I had this same/a similar issue and they (Service Techs) initially sprayed some fluid on the belts to stop the noise. It went away for a while, then it came back. The next time they replaced a pulley. they indicated that this was something they were familiar with on the E350s. So it could be the belts, or a pulley. There should not be any loud squeaky/whistling noises coming from the front of the engine.

I have the same problem on my CLS550. I'll spray it, and it goes away for a few days and show up again. I will be replacing the idler pulley this week, as soon as I figure out how to release the tensioner pulley. The idler pulley was only $30.

Belt dressing is very temporary. A longer lasting alternatice is a bar of soap. I prefer good old fashion Ivory soap. Carefully apply the bar to the gripping surface of the belt while the engine is spinning. This will quiet it up. If it is a misaligned pulley or bad bearing, it will come back relatively quickly.

I know this is an older thread but my 2010 E350 does this sometimes. It seems to occur on colder days on startup in the morning. What is the fix and cost? My warranty is expired.

Maybe a new belt and tensioner is the answer. When I have read the mfg. fact sites they say the poly v belts wear their grip surfaces so a change can take place on a good looking belt.
dick.

Found out a long time ago to just replace the belts when they start to squeak. The sprays and soap are only temporary fixes. It just comes back.

Shouldn't belts be changed during one of the scheduled Services? Does anyone know which service?

I do not believe that it is part of any scheduled maintenance. Usually they get changed when they become cracked or squeak.

2010 E350 maintenance manual only mentions about belt inspection. there is no change schedule. Not sure about other models. My car is at 38000 miles and i've heard belt squeaking for the first time when i cranked it in the morning when it was 20 degrees and the car sat outside over night. Other than that never heard it squeak. Not sure if it was pulley or the belt.
