Stupid door lock question....
Here is what I want to do:
Park the car
Shut it off
Open the door and hit the LOCK button on the door while I am getting out
Shut the door
When I do that, the door remains unlocked.
Is there some setting I am missing?

No,
it is designed that you cannot accidentally lock the keys in the car. You cannot lock the driver's door lock when the door is open, i.e. the lock pin does not go down if you try to press it nor does it go down if you use the electric switch.
You can lock the doors without the key by first having the driver's and rear door open and then pressing the lock switch. This will lock all door locks other than the driver's door. Then close the driver's door and press the lock pin down thru the rear door. After this close the rear door and all doors are locked.
So, you can lock your keys in the car but doing it takes an effort and surely is not by an accident any more.

Obviously the OP wants to do what he writes. I think he knows how it works but some people have a habit of locking the door while the door is still open and then just closing it. Most cars allow to do this or at least did. I also used to do this with some older cas I had. MB just "disabled" the possibility of accidentally locking the keys in the car.
