I don't know that there are a lot of mechanical differences between the two years, but there is a big difference in the electronics technology starting in 2012. In my opinion it is a big enough difference to go for the 2012.

I'd go with '12 also unless you love that NA engine
The 2012 has twin turbo and more torque than the 2010, and the torque is generated low. Better mpg also, not that one buys an AMG for fuel economy though,

The 2011's introduced some nicer interior materials like alcantara headliner and such. I'd probably pick either the 2011 if you want the N/A motor and to save some money, or the 2012.

you can post this question to the amg forum and they'll probably give you some better answers. but if money is not an issue, always go with the newer model. it ain't fun to see the repair bills for an amg when the warranty is up.

You will love the W212. Especially if you are coming out of a C Class. If you can get the 2012 then go for it! A later year is always better due to more improvements. W212 has proven good quality/reliability but if you have a chance to land a newer car then go for it.

Drive both and see which you prefer. I like the 2010 for its quietness the 2012 for it's improved mileage. if you are getting the sport package the 2012 has straight fog lights which I prefer to the hockey stick ones on prior years. Also I think that the navigation is improved on the newer ones relative to 2010 but don't know that for sure.
There are some potential concerns with the 2012 motor as other manufacturers of direct injection engines (most notably Audi) have had carbon build-up on the intake valves which have necessitated removal of the intake manifold for cleaning. Time will tell whether Mercedes has solved this issue.
