First Benz - E350 Bluetec. Question.....

Recently took delivery of my first Mercedes, a Palldium Silver Bluetec. First diesel car I've ever owned, VERY pleased with the mileage thus far and very pleased with the car overall. One small complaint.......

The car came with Goodyear run-flats. I can already detect tire noise starting to build, which has been my experience with every other Goodyear I have ever owned, especially the runflats. My last Z06 was horrible with tire noise from the Goodyears. So in spite of the expense, I think I'd enjoy my new car more if I ditched the run-flats and just save them so I have new tires to put on the car when the lease is done.

For you fellow E350 owners, what's the current thinking as to the best replacement? I've generally been a Michelin bigot, but never having owned a Mercedes before thought it best to ask the brain trust here for experiences. My primary things I want is tire noise (NONE) and a tire that does not tramline, but tracks nice and straight.

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Michelin bigotry is the best type of bigotry. IMHO they are the best.

I haven't had a problem with the Turanza's on my 2011 BTC.

Just one comment: with the DEF tank, there's no spare tire, and no room for one.

While my snows are on the car, I keep a spare wheel/tire in the trunk, which works fine, but costs me half my trunk space.

You'll need to think long and hard about what you'll do if you get a flat and have no spare, if you switch to regular pneumatic tires.

Not to worried about the flat situation as I have AAA and rarely travel somewhere where I would be very remote. Ill certainly throw a can of sealer in the trunk and maybe a cheap air pump. Tires are so reliable these days anyway...

I replaced the RunFlat tires on my E350 Bluetec with a set of Cooper Zeon RS3-A's. They have been reviewed well and I found them to be a major improvement to the OE Turannza. They are a UHP tire like the Michelins and not a Grand Touring tire. I was very pleased with the performance and they had the best wet traction I have ever had with any tire. I am sure you can find some reviews on them. The 17" that I needed were very reasonably priced. I also purchased a set of Michelin X-Ice mounted on Elbus rims for the white stuff. Really made a great difference. Good luck.

I''m ready for some new tires as well and going through the same dilemma. I'm also sensitive to tire noise and rarely corner at tire limits so 'sticky' does nothing for me. Just put a set of Conti Pure Contact on my wife's BMW and we're very pleased with them. 70K mile warranty! Also ditched the Goodyear run craps on the BMW. Continentals are known primarily for their quiet ride and not so much for their performance but that's OK by me. In my younger days I was a Michelin bigot as well
