How are you going to measure the pad thickness without taking the caliper off?

You can simply look at the pads through the rim spokes/holes to determine how worn they are. The pads in the attachments have only about 1k miles on them. You can see where the edges are beveled and that bevel reduces as they wear. The wear indicator light gives you ample time warning before the pads are gone....meaning after the alarm you still have time...2K+ miles?....before the pad backing hits/ruins the rotor. Viewing the outer pads trailing edge only doesn't account for all pad wear but it's a good indication.
