e350 cdi tunning
hi guys new to this forum never had a Mercedes before, best friend has a c63 coupe and has totally made me fall in love with the mb especially the v8, however unfortunately i am in no position to afford a c63 or the fuel for that matter so closest thing i can get to that is an e350 cdi and tune it. i know there are good gains from re-map but what else can i do? the 63 benefits from long tube headers is that something the e class would benefit from also?
p.s it would be the 231bhp model id be getting. thanks in advance for any help

We have had good luck on our 2010 E550 with O.E.Tuning , a sponsor on this Forum. I think their web page lists W212 Diesels.
Long tube headers are a no-go with the diesel turbo/exhaust manifold. A larger turbo and secondary exhaust components could be changed but you are talking about a huge amount of work for what may be disappointing results. My guess is you'll be more than happy with the response of a performance "tune". Most of the gain is created by increasing turbo boost in the mid-range RPM, right where the engine spends most of it's time.

It is really easy to get overaggressive when "tuning" a turbo or supercharged engine. It really comes down to how much do you trust the guy who is boosting your engine. I would rather be a little more conservative and pick a tune (and tuner) that delivers a reasonable improvement than one who pushes too close to the design limits of the drive line to get a number higher than anyone else. You can find threads on the AMG side of this forum that goes back a few years discussing how their tune delivered higher numbers than others.........and later hearing about melted pistons, etc.
Use a tuner with a good reputation and customer service and you won't be disappointed. You won't a feel 10HP difference by seat-of-the-pants. And your not going to get 30 more horsepower than everyone else without walking closer the line of destruction.
