Ordered 2014 E550

Finally broke down and put deposit on a 2014 E550. Ordered Polar White, Black Leather with Black Ash Wood trim, P1 premium pkg, panorama sunroof, lighting pkg, lane tracking pkg, KEYLESS-GO pkg, split-folding rear seats, and rear deck spoiler.

Got an okay discount, but E550s seem to be very scarce as this car is scheduled to be built August for Sept delivery.

Saw a 2014 E350 with similar color that I wanted (picture below).

Discount was about 6%. Forgot about that illuminated star. Also was wondering about getting aluminum trim but wish I could see how it would look in person.

Found out heated steering wheel option switched steering wheel from a 3 spoke sport model to a 4 spoke version. Emailed and called (or at least tried to) my salesman to change the order. After four days, still haven't returned my email or call so I tried to talk to the sales manager. Amazingly, that guy doesn't return my call either. Wondering if they are treating me like dirt because they agreed to a discount on the car? This is at Mercedes Benz Tysons Corner in VA.

I finally was able to reach my salesman who then proceeded to tell me they are having difficulty with my order. So my car probably won't be delivered until NOVEMBER! I told him that I am not in a rush but will certainly not wait SIX MONTHS! I might as well wait for the 2015 model!

My salesguy sends me images that they are trying to change one of their allotted car from a 350 to a 550, but regional office is not replying to their email. His manager doesn't think it will be a problem, but I have no confirmation. Does anyone know about dealer allotments and can tell me if they are bs'ing me? I am annoyed enough to cancel my order there and take my business elsewhere.

I have the 3 spoke heated wheel in my 2014 wagon. Shouldn't be an issue.

The aluminum trim looks cheap - your build will be beautiful. Congrats!

Thanks for the reassurance on steering wheel and advice on aluminum, YYZ-E55! But wondering if your 3-spoke steering wheel is the sports version that is not completely round (straight line at bottom). Heated steering wheel is nice to have feature but I could do without.

My sales guy finally confirmed my change in order but didn't really give me a confirmation on delivery date except via a text message.

congrats on the order, it'll be here before you know it......I have waited for three cars and am currently waiting for my 4th
and take no BS from the dealers: you TELL them what you want, and that's their
JOB to do it....you know what I mean? they work for YOU!!!!!

good luck

Hi I know the 550 is difficult to get...my dealer tried very hard to get me one..the sport steering wheel is not flat on the bottom at least not on mine...the 550 is a great car ...also the heated steering wheel in colder climates is wonderful...good luck with your order....btw I have had my vehicle exactly one week ago and 1200 kms ago...

Mine is round, not flat bottom. Good luck!

Thank you, YYZ-E55 and martinlarose. I thought I read somewhere that the heated steering option changes the steering wheel. If you do the build via Mercedes website for a 550, it shows a flat bottom sports steering. See http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/vehicl...550W4#interior

like below:

My salesguy came through and told me today they moved build date to July so I will get car in August!

I really like the 2014 E550 especially it will be the last E550 MB will build for while or forever.

I am having almost the exact same experience with this dealership. At the time of sale I was told they could change one of their allocated cars, three days later was told they couldn't do it. Now the vehicle won't be in until late November.

I was unable to get the heated steering wheel without ordering an overpriced options package. The newest M-B website now shows the limited heated wheel availability. I confirmed it with Customer Service who first said it was available, then said it was not. Very poor it is that cold climate customers are treated so badly on a very nice option.

There are multiple steering wheels and options.

You can have:
- Standard 4 spoke steering wheel for Luxury trim
- Standard 3 spoke steering wheel for Sport trim
- Wood 4 spoke for Luxury trim (+$590)
- Wood 3 spoke for Sport trim (+$590)
- Flat bottom sport steering wheel for Sport trim ($260)

Now you can choose to have the standard 3 or 4 spoke steering wheel heated for an additional $250. So if you choose either the wood or the flat bottom then there is no option to add heating too.

The only addition to this is that while the MBUSA website mentions the $260 flat bottom steering wheel as an option, the DOG from May does not so this might not be an option at all any more or it is a new option that is not in the DOG from 5/13.

The only other thing that changed is that the heated steering wheel used to be a $490 option in the DOG from February but now it's only $250. Granted the heated steering wheel is only available with the P01 package. Whether it's an overpriced option package or not that is left to be determined. Basically three of the options cannot be ordered without adding the P01 package to the car; ventilated seats, heated rear seats or the heated steering wheel. But if you don't get the P01 package you don't get heated front seats either so I can see why only people who get the hated front seats would get the option to order the heated steering wheel.

The Premium package costs a lot and I would gladly give up the built in GPS navigation but sadly we can't if you want the other goodies that come with it. For me the rear side sunshades, the premium sound system and the heated front seats were a must so I just sucked it up.

My impression is that heated seats come standard with the E550, and the P01 option adds ventilation through seat covering holes. That may have been your intended point. Can someone better informed clarify this point? I like the idea of a premium sound system but with very bad hearing it offered limited personal value. Turning up the sound level is unfair to my passengers.

My bad, I was thinking of the E350 not the E550.

However on the 5/13 DOG there is absolutely no mention that the heated steering wheel requires P01 package, the only footnote is that 289 (wood steering wheel) cannot be combined with 443 (heated steering wheel). Maybe you should check with your dealer and see if they can build one without the P01 package but 443 heated steering wheel.

I did check with the dealer and they contacted M-B USA only to be advised that the PO1 package was a prerequisite to ordering the heated steering wheel. I also sent a letter to Mercedes-Benz Germany. They sent the letter to M-B USA for response. The car is a factory order.

Well that sucks. Sounds like the heated steering wheel is a $4,500 option for you...

True. I ordered it without the heated steering wheel and PO-1 option. Seems like M-B could do better, but maybe the 212 replacement will offer a better option packages.
