Brake Pad and Rotors Price
My light check brake pad wear indicator just came on and I got a quote on how much it would cost to get it changed.
I was quoted $789 with tax.
I'm replacing the pads and rotors in the front and only the pads in the back.
What do you all think? Is this a good price?

Pretty stiff I would say for an indy shop. MB dealer will do an axle almost for the same.

I just checked with the dealership. They said about 700 per axel for rotors and pads. The shop quote 789 for both. The only thing is I'm only getting rotors and pad for one axel and pads only for the other axel. Is that a good deal still?

just wondering if there are any indy's that specialize strictly in Benz like the one I go to....
obviously that would be the one I'd shoot for if possible, but not to imply you have not scanned your area.....

Brake pads etc.
Do you really need new rotors? Wear indicator usually means only pad wear. As for pads have had great success replacing with Akebono Ceramic pads. Can usually buy these on line for approx $100/pr. Amazon or Tirerack.

I would go with the Akebono Ceramics just as greasykid states from Tirerack. Less dusting and similar (or at least I can't tell) bite from stock pads.

Seems about right actually. He said the indy shop would do $789 for front rotors/pads and rear pads. You say dealer will only do fronts for almost the same price.

Someone said dealer is $700 for the front axle.
There is no way I would go to the dealer for brakes as it seems they have lots oif problems.
I am a DIY guy and like to do things on cars. Changed both front and read pads on my car myself. Super easy. I have not done the rotors but would not think this is hard either.

Did you look at the pads to see how worn they are? My experience is there are several thousand miles remaining once the indicator goes off....depending on your braking aggressiveness. Which wheel/side/face caused the indicator to go off? Not a bad price if they include fluid replacement. It's common to replace pads only every other time for the rear axle.

2014 Sport White on black
I got my last set on ebay (cross drilled rotars and ceramic pads with sensors) for my Infinit M35 and it was a lot less than OEM. They lasted 30K until I sold it. Looked better, last longer and much cheaper. I took them to my local mechanic and he also put anti-squeek stuff behind the pads and I had error free driving. Might be something to look into. What I do not like is that with my current 2012 E350 are the sport rotars in the front and the plan in the rear. Just does not look good. I am looking into adding the same OEM rotars in the back as the fron.

Ok Tom,
It is an hour job if you have a garage with the lift to get the car up on the whole axle at the time. It is at least a two hour job as best for a home DIY guy.
But still worth it if you like working on cars. Very easy to do.
Just don't split the front caliber as those "star bolts" invite you to do so. That would be a big mistake.

+100 Good advice.

I work at advance auto and rotors for mine are $50 a pop and the ceramic pads for the front are $40 and it all seems good to me. I'd try to get Zimmerman drilled rotors for the price you're paying

I just had my front and rear brakes redone - pads and rotors at my indy for less than $800. It may be a bit high on price depending on where you are - but I think it seems in the ballpark.

When mine are due, I think I will DIY and change out the rear rotors for OEM or very good after market drilled rotors. I also do not like the drilled in front and non-drilled in the back - seems kinda cheap looking to me. I am also considering getting one of those portable lifts that will lift the car about 25 - 48" off of the floor.
